Over twice as fast and only about $20 - $30 more
Bargain
Also a 2hr train Journey in NI is just £7 child £14 adult (and that’s after the prices just went up after a while)
It’s handy 😉
@Captain_C2
@0xgaut
That set schedule is about every 10 minutes in many cases, and who says you need to queue? Just get to the station by a quick 8 min metro ride, hop on the train like normal and then get the metro in Hamburg for your final destination
It’s still quicker
So efficient (:
@sam_d_1995
And she’s in a car.
She can’t complain, she’s also causing traffic.
“Oh but I’m only one car”
Yeah so is everybody else 😒
New York has the subway, or the sketchy dusty and rusty buses..
@ShibaDog2022
@Sam599222
@Boenau
1. You’re making up stats
2. Many young, elderly, middle aged and women ride bikes
3. Bikes are efficient when the correct infra is put in place, and in downtown areas on street parking shouldn’t be needed instead put parking for disabled and multi level parking.
@ShibaDog2022
@Sam599222
@Boenau
Bike lanes can replace parking and usually do, or streets that are basically useless unless you have local access.
A good bike network is much more efficient than *just* having car lanes
@ShibaDog2022
@Sam599222
@Boenau
I hate to break it to you but visitors don’t have to park right at the front doorstep. There’s plenty of other parking choices (multi level, underground +surface) walk for a minute or 2.
+ many don’t even drive to get everywhere. I’m not saying get rid of all parking 🅿️!
@chrisfrantic
Good driving 👍
I would never cycle at night without lights, it’s just too dangerous, and I’d also like to actually properly see where I’m going thanks 🙏
@Jo_Marney
@theJeremyVine
Then there will be 12 less cars in the car park if bike locking is at full capacity. Meaning anyone who needs to drive, can drive and park. But the 12 who cycled may have a blood check, GP appointment, works there, visiting someone, or others
@Satyagraha44
@JGrantGlover
Omg a few townhouses are literally the most gentle type of density you can get 😭
No one would bat an eye if you walked past these.. it’s totally normal and good for the neighbourhood and economy
I can’t stress this enough but there are so many bike lanes in NI that are good/ okay but then just end or don’t connect up with other ones.
Alfred street to Bankmore, crossing Ormeau Ave is one
Extremely dangerous, I was almost ran over.
safe crossing is needed‼️
@deptinfra
Belfast is so beautiful. Honestly.
Just imagine how much better it would be if we built high density buildings, with lots of greenery and bike lanes on dormant surfaces car parks.
Truly wonderful city.
@north0fnorth
Grid= good
This= not.
It’s just sprawl. And it’s fine to have low density housing in outer suburbs but so much of American cities are like this.
But I love grids a lot when they are easily navigable in Manhattan, downtown Chicago Barcelona
@reglasgow_web
Cover it, create a Green space on top, and add a tram line.
Traffic eased, pollution eased, much better looking, more social and communal areas, more greenery, better for environment, and good for economy in many factors
@BelfastLive
Needs to be expanded up Royal Ave I think to make it less crowded. It’s bad for anyone in a wheelchair, or just anyone who doesn’t enjoy huge crowds (most ppl)
I don’t get why so many Estates In Northern Ireland have huge swathes of empty grassland with NO BIODIVERSITY 🌺🌳❌
And the densities of many estates are very low, why didn’t they build it higher density and have USABLE green space with dedicated pitches and forests? 🌲
@SonyaShaykhoun
@FifthHarmany
You think America has any other cities that are not car dependant.
Coming from a European who has family who moved over to Florida during war… yeah the whole east coast is unwalkable, but nature and downtown are really quite nice usually. Especially NYC and Boston
Idea: build a tram line from
#smithfield
to
#mossley
along the Antrim road, with a new terminus at an underused car park in Smithfield and a public park with trees, greenery and bike lanes. Parts of the tram will run through Green grass while most will be on street trams.
@stuntinondezho
@Sleepin04927004
@craighunter_
@0xgaut
You don’t. America was bolldozed for cars and for motor companies to get that bank 💵
It’s not bad to own a car but saying that US is huge so you need a car is kinda silly, because many in China don’t.. it’s cities are well connected like the US used to be. Oh well!
* What does belfast need to change? *
- unnecessarily wide roads
-vacant land in or near the city centre
-destroying communities and nature for cars
How change?
-new train stations/ better services
-more bike infra
-more development/conservation of buildings
@CircleLineBT
@TopRapperQuotes
@InsaneRealitys
The car driver is obviously in the wrong and could’ve killed both of them, but every pedestrian should always take a glance even just a short glance before crossing the street for safety.
@Tara500
@londonplay
Well they were for years, many hundreds of years. Until cars were introduced.
And streets are not necessarily for transport at all, they are destinations, so should allow for safe spaces, greenery, bike parking, on street car parking and communal areas. + slow speed car traffic.
Belfast : 650,000 metropolitan population, 350,000+ city population.
❌No trams
❌not good cycling infrastructure
❌ No underground metro
✅ many metro bus routes
✅many Ulsterbus routes (but infrequent)
✅Train stations (still not frequent enough sometimes)
✅ TOO MANY CARS
Amsterdam: population 900,000
It has:
✅ Walking and cycling network without peer
✅ 15 tram lines with 100km of routes
✅ Metro with 5 lines
✅ 46 bus lines
✅ 10 ferry lines
✅ Regional trains with 11 stations
✅ Cars too
How does your city compare?
I’ve never seen this road have more than 40 cars and a few busses within the space of a minute.
It’s ridiculous.
It needs revamped to accommodate for the new UNI
@maxwiggan
At it’s widest it’s 9 lanes wide
NINE LANES.
It needs 4 car lanes max, 2 bus lanes and bike lanes with wider footpaths, more trees and safer crossing options
With new students living here I often see ppl running across the road avoiding getting ran over..
@deptinfra
NOW
Where are the bike traffic lights and crossings that are DESPERATELY needed for connecting existing bike infra!!?!?
@deptinfra
you CANT just wait for someone to be killed here, I almost got ran over myself due to bad infrastructure!!!
Fix it please
@LinenQuarterBID

Explain then why Valencia, a city in which most of the residents live in apartments, has one of the best quality of life on the world.
You’re sticking together random hypothesis with no evidence to back it up. Mixed densities is great and vital for a city
@BillyMeredithMU
@justine_heaton
@theJeremyVine
I cycle often but it’s my opinion too.
Everyone should give way to emergency vehicles with blue lights. No one should be punished for this, I’m sure the guy on the bike is okay 👍 And he’ll know in future to watch out for emergency vehicles.
I understand why he got hit though
@CarsRuinedCity
Here’s a super simple suggestion to every traffic engineer!
Literally just flip the lanes about and add a curb to separate the bike lane 💩
I’m buying a new bike tomorrow after a few years of not owning one. Does anyone have any tips?
I’m buying an AirTag holder for under the seat as I have a spare AirTag and I’ll buy a bike bag for the back rack which will be handy for carrying things.
@KatieMPatton
@StrongTowns
Me. Because the American suburbs (at least modern ones) are a Ponzi scheme. Suburbs are fine but there’s many issues with the ones that currently exist especially in North America. Can’t hide from the fact
@barzinh
@_dmoser
@TheOrcaProject
Parking in cities doesn’t really exist, at least it shouldn’t, in Europe. We take the bus, tram, train, Funicolare or cycle here. And I’d we do drive we park in a multi story car park or a small side street..
@RightWingCope
@StatisticUrban
Of course. And when you have a weak community due to a lack of third places or social areas.. less local business and a diluted local culture to due so many corporate businesses and copy paste urban environment… you kinda switch to social media, which causes huge issues.
If this wee grass alley was opened and the gate was unlocked it would not take 40 minutes to walk to the train station at jordanstown but instead just 15-20 minutes.. and for others it would be cut from 55 minutes to just 10-15… why are developers so crap
@north0fnorth
I’ve been to many European cities and many American ones, let’s be real. European cities are much easier to navigate without a map. There are clear routes to follow, signage. And a social feeling which guides you in directions. In places like Orlando and Chicago it’s different..
Would
@deptinfra
or
@ANBorough
not even consider to build just a simple small bridge to connect the 1000’s of people that live in this area near the brambles so they are closer to shops, train stations, schools, dentists and bus stops?? Ridiculous
@BelfastUrbanist
@CircleLineBT
I hope sirocco site turns out to be a great success. I would personally love to live here. It looks like a great place to live. I see progress as I pass the site on the train every now and again which is good, hopefully it continues and doesn’t halt.
@Jo_Marney
@theJeremyVine
That’s just not true at all though. Do some simple maths and you’ll work out that 12 bikes takes up more than 12x less space than a single car.
So it’s true.
Cycling HELPS drivers when the proper infrastructure is added.
@tonykatz
Lol what. It’s actually increasing mobility.
1. Less deaths/safer
2. More safer options like public transit, walking + 🚲.. and still having the free option to drive even tho some streets may be pedestrianised (and for good reason).
3. Disabled ppl
4. Ppl who can’t drive
Belfast can become the next cycling city. In fact it would be much easier to transform belfast to one than Amsterdam pre 1970’s and London.. as it is smaller and quite dense
Central London, rush hour, just off Tottenham Ct. Rd.
Every junction looks and SOUNDS like this. It’s so quiet and still so busy.
On Oxford St. you can hear conversations on the other side of the road.
Amazing transformation & a x10 better city as a result.

A lot of people cycle in New York
Something close to 650,000 a day I think
That’s quite a good number to justify bike lanes. And there’s still plenty of lanes for cars, buses and trucks
New York is probably always gonna be congested tbh
@Friday4768
@MikeyCycling
Use a cargo bike, or put grocery’s into a pannier (I’ve seen many do it here) or take the train or bus or walk and of course drive (which many do).
Lots of choices here
This bridge is so annoying it’s sometimes opened sometimes closed and when it’s closed it forces people to go down and walk down stairs imagine if you were disabled. You’d have to go all the way down to St George’s market and walk from there. Why not keep it open?
The replies are mental.
All brainwashed conspiracy theorists believing all the lies and conspiracies off Facebook 😂
They say “we don’t want smart futuristic city!”
The motor industry and mass motor infrastructure WAS a “futuristic” EXPERIMENT!
Bring back traditional cities!
These aerial images (from ) of Belfast's Westlink dramatically show how massive roads within cities cut them apart - and how finding ways to soften that divide, in this case by covering the road and creating a park, can reconnect detached parts of the city.
@apascoe33
@jdywm
@BrentToderian
How do you know that? 😂
Also Dubai is not like normal cities, it’s very very planned unlike naturally developed cities such as Rome (meaning a lot of this was all built to prepare for future development)
It didn’t implement any of the local values or culture
Does anyone else hate how the Ann street street bike lane ends and cyclists have to dismount to use the crossing, then try to squeeze your bike between the metal fences on the pedestrian island.. even worse when other bikes are doing the same. We should have a separate crossing!
@islesofmets
@sam_d_1995
Girl if your boss is stalking you that bad you gotta find a new job 😭
And mobile phones track you all the time anyways.. living close to shops and cafes won’t change this. If you actually want to live under the radar live in a forest with no devices at all 🤷♂️
@ruinedneko
@the_transit_guy
“No reason”
It’s to protect cyclists and pedestrians, and in a city that MUST be done, in fact all urban areas everyone must be protected. Also I’m sure traffic will be fine, it’s much more efficient to transport bikes and people than cars.

@NaqiyNY
Took the bus for 10 days past this. Wouldn’t even recognised it because all of Floridas urban area looks the same 🤮
I’m so sad Florida is so car dependent, it’s nature is beautiful and it’s just being destroyed without question or consequences 😔
@deptinfra
Hill street NEEDS to be pedestrianised. It’s as simple as putting in 6 bollards. Cheap, and it will save people being harassed or worse, injured. Especially on a street with many bars and drunk people. Stop making excuses.
@CircleLineBT
@BelfastUrbanist

Same in belfast
We had most of our countries railway torn out
All of our trams torn out
And realised we f*Cleo up bad and tried to replace the trams with the glider- a bendy bus 💩
@Honest_Sy1
@jen_moxon
@suicyclists
Yeah me too. Most who cycle would probably agree and I cycle often too. If you see a vehicle far ahead indicating slow down if it’s a larger vehicle ie a lorry and let it past 👍
Just be observant and safe everyone 😃

NOW
@dystopiaville
@thoughteds
They’ve been around since the first civilisations..🤌🏽
People obviously used to walk to places on a day to day basis. So why not now too in suburbs?
1. Lack of city centre high density living (how to fix? Refurbish all abandoned buildings into mixed uses, apts above shops)
2. Dirty, many streets are filled with rubbish and graffiti
3. Undesirable to get to by transit (in some cases it’s hard to cycle walk or take bus/train
@Hkjohns
@IanFildes
@TPSOperations
@TheBikingLawyer
Correct
Learn the traffic laws
You shouldn’t overtake someone on a bike on a clearly marked bike street especially when it’s right before a junction
There’s no war on cars or bikes or anything, it’s just a matter or learning traffic laws and following them
@allengraetz
@Boenau
Bc it’s so expensive, and there’s a major housing crisis.
It’s nothing to do with congestion charges, the average no Yorker doesn’t drive to lower Manhattan, and most don’t even drive anyways on a daily basis
@Starling3232
This should’ve been permanently kept as a proper, official pedestrian plaza since lockdown. Any proper European city would have this pedestrianised as one of the main squares in the city.
@Tara500
@londonplay
A teenager has more sense than a seemingly adult woman.
You don’t have anything to say to me but clown emojis, just shows that you don’t actually care about anything that people are trying to do for better streets and neighbourhoods.
@FuckCarsReddit
465 cars? Eh? What 😭 like they aren’t living in the middle of nowhere, and guess what, probably with a car too! They aren’t exactly helping
@staffcommenter
@BrentToderian
@NACTO
Transit way includes tram lines, bus lanes or train lines I think. And since it’s efficient in its own lane they would usually move faster and also trains are just faster than cars usually.
@Marshals_RRABL
@StrongTowns
I live in one of these places, since I was born. They are fun to cycle around when you are young, but once the teenage years hit. You realise how boring it is. There’s a wee park and that’s it, just houses and streets. Hard to walk to many places, but there is a bus stop I guess
@MyFDOT_SWFL
Been to Florida 3 times and went the last time without renting a car or being driven by my family who moved there during war ages ago..
Can’t count how many close calls I had when I was following all the rules (waiting 3 whole mins at a crosswalk eg).
Maybe fix that too!
