One of the major themes within the #RailReview , as well as being a major concern of mine back when I met with members of the AIRR, is that the review is still using 'passenger demand' as a litmus test for rail development feasibility. As stated by many, including myself... 1/5

The government in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the UK need to ensure that this plan is moved on swiftly. There is absolutely no legitamite reason as to why we should wait until 2050 for this to be realised, we can do this sooner if we commit major funds NOW.

I need to stress that this is almost £2Billion. Northern Ireland's portion of the rail review would cost about £7Billion. With this kind of funding every year, the Rail Review would be completed in about 5 years, instead of 25. Why are our railways not being prioritised?

@CarsRuinedCity What is even more interesting is how motorists would look at that motorway and deem that it is 'better' because it is full. A lot of anti-cycling rhetoric here in the UK uses that kind of logic to 'prove' cycle lanes are 'emtpy', when in fact they are just very efficient.

With Belfast #GrandCentralStation , a serious change needs to be made to make getting to and from the station as safe as possible for cyclists and pedestrians. The Grovsner Road Westlink connection needs to be removed, with the Grosvenor Road becoming a two lane road (1/2)

Belfast needs more of this, a LOT more. Especially around Royal Avenue and where the now abandonded Bank of Ireland sits. Oh and lets not forget the Garfield Bar. We must preserve and restore our built heritage.

This is fabulous to see! There are places just like this all over the UK that have bustling, lovely archways with businesses of all kinds where locals and tourist alike can shop and relax. Hope to see more of this in the future! #PedestrianiseBelfast

Yesterday was another stupendous example of rail travel being the A1 mode of transportation for public events. Coleraine Railway Station was packed with about a thousand eager passengers for the NI International Airshow on Saturday. 1/3

Sligo, a town with a population just two thousand more than Larne, is going to have it's railfreight capabilities re-established. Larne on the other hand, a port that deals with a huge portion of Northern Irish imports and exports, still has no railfreight integration.

There are ways to help these trees, yet politicians wish to conduct works on the road instead? BAN. THE. CARS. I have been upset with poor decisions before, but this one quite literally takes the cake as the worst response to an easily fixable issue. #SaveTheDarkHedges 3/3

@BBCNewsNI This is an absolute joke of a waste of public fund. Instead of investing in alternatives to motorcar transport like railways, they continue to prop up the red herring of car centred development and induced demand. This will only end badly for everyone 🤦🏻‍♂️

Lastly, speaking of the Weavers Cross project, allowing this mistake to slip through the cracks only opens up the wider possibility of Weavers Cross suffering the same cutbacks and poor changes to benefit pockets rather than citizens. WE NEED COMMITMENT. #SaveTheCanopy 7/7

Think about this for a second, Cork, a city with a population that is roughly 1/5 that of Belfast's is getting a €2.5Billion (£2.1Billion) Light Rail project. Now, Cork may be about 60+sq km larger than Belfast, but the population deficit still begs the question, why?

Eamon Scullion @JacobsConnects outlines Cork light rail. City spending two BILLION on 18km route running every 6mins. Doesn’t complete to 2035. Why? Well Cork first spending €500m upgrading buses. A city half size of Belfast with €2.5b on public transport. Come on NI - wake up!

Not railway related, obviously, but just like our railways we have lost so much of our built heritage from all sorts of influences from poor policies to terrorism. We cannot allow this outstanding beacon of Ulster's architectural past to be left in the history books. #SaveCRC

There is two months left until Translink's feasibility study into reopening the Knockmore Line commences. As always, my main priority is ensuring that no matter the result, the three original stations along the line return upon reopening. The local community must come first.
