It’s been the honour of my life to represent Castle for the last four years. Disappointed to not continue making change as a councillor. I’m proud of the work achieved. Thanks to those who voted for me. Watching with love and hope for my green colleagues. ❤️💚
My friend Lyra was murdered in Derry last night. Her life was coming together - book deal, beautiful girlfriend, making plans and feeling soo upbeat about what was ahead for herself. She was sweet and loving, forensic and smart with soo much still to give. Heart is breaking.
Tone deaf nonsense. To equate the legacy of systemic racism & slavery in the USA to our sectarian conflict is white privilege in action. There are many rightful critiques for the sectarianism that led to our conflict. To equate them to the legacy of slavery & racism is shameful.
I’m off on my stag to Berlin. Scared 14yr old me would never have thought it possible but I’m celebrating with my nearest and dearest. Food, culture and dancing here we come. I *still* can’t get married in my own land but there has been huge progress. Slan till Monday
Today I’m 40 (how did that happen 👀) In just under 6 weeks I will become a civil partner to a fantastic man. 12 weeks ago I was elected to represent my home district. 2019 is some roller coaster.
Voted 5 times against equal marriage. Signed the DUP petition of Concern all 5 times.
Even though he knew Civil Partnerships did not provide the same pension rights or religious freedoms as marriage.
Libertarian only when it's his liberties affected.
I will never support any policy that discriminates against my neighbour. No device or tool of discrimination will ever touch my hand nor will I support anyone who does
9 years and a few weeks ago he brought me here for dinner. I knew it was special then. Tomorrow we will become Civil Partners! So lucky to have met him!
Forcing the minister to bring a climate change bill. Ending the campaign of harassment against women seeking healthcare.
Thanks Clare. Such a loss to Northern Ireland.
It has been such a privilege to have been a South Belfast MLA. I am so proud of the team I have had with me & all we achieved in the time. Thank you to everyone who voted

£20b bridge to Scotland? Nah. If invested in sustainable transport it could transform NI. Reopen the railways, greenways and canal routes, proper cycle infrastructure, subsidised ferry’s and some road improvements. That’s how £20b could protect ‘our green & pleasant land’
We have been lobbying others for years and delighted to say this motion passed without any votes against. An overdose prevention centre can save lives. Thanks to expert orgs for arguing so passionately.
This is part of our vision for a cleaner greener fairer city.
DUP just voted against motion to support the

We have more seats than the TUV at both Council and Assembly.
Yet guess who the BBC NI have given additional coverage too?
It's a shocking indictment.

We're the biggest opposition party in Stormont, but the BBC has decided to exclude us from election coverage which other parties are receiving.

Next week I will bring a motion which commits Belfast to establishing an overdose prevention facility.
We can save lives and reduce drug debris, making the city safer for all. And we can join others advocating for the ending on the failed war on drugs.
How it started vs how it’s going!
Flying visit to union street as it reopens today, partially pedestrianised.
Since last June I have been working with others to make this happen. Finally we are getting there!

Thousands stood yesterday in belfast to say no to PII in the

case.
This case is a lightning rod for questions around policing and justice. People don’t feel like justice is being served.
Great to see thousands of activists descend on City Hall calling for the honouring of agreements made years ago. They shouldn’t have to. We have a duty to promote and protect indigenous and minority languages. Brandon Lewis should get it done.
#AchtAnois
Clare has been an inspiring leader. She has been my mentor, boss, friend and confidant. Northern Ireland now has Climate legislation thanks to her and our 2 MLAs passed law that will save lives.
I can't wait to build on her legacy. Thanks so much

Green Party nominates Mal O’Hara as Seanad candidate
If elected, Mal would be the first elected senator who classified himself politically in the North as “other”.
It would also ensure that Northern representation continues.

Seems that
#WeDeserveBetter
in Belfast has decided to pull queer and feminist speakers as their issues are ‘divisive’ - despite the good intentions it seems we deserve better than the current we deserve better. An irony truly symptomatic of this place.
The DUP again snubbed Belfast Pride Talksback last night. The largest party in the north and a party of government still believes its appropriate in 2019 to ignore queer people, their friends, families and allies and refuse to give proper account of their behaviour.

Heart breaking continuation of violence tonight. Abject failure of political leadership. Young people groomed and manipulated leading to limited life chances. Another generation introduced to casual rioting. Relationships at interfaces set back for years. This place.
Out for lunch today.

Just passed our first anniversary as Civil Partners. Awaiting the change to allow us to upgrade to marriage. On the banks of the Narrow Water, the beautiful Cooleys in the background and with family and friends around us. We had bigger plans to celebrate but life eh!
Proud to join the team today and make it official as I become a member of the Seanad.
Looking forward to working with my Green colleagues, government and cross party.

some parties have announced candidates. Where we are with a 'out' LGBTQ tally is;
DUP:0
SF:0
SDLP: 1 (1 Gay man)
UUP: 1 (1 gay woman)
ALL: 3 (3 Gay men)
GP: 1 (Me) (so far..)
TUV: Haha.
Hoping for improvement & diversity as we move to a full slate of candidates.

In the previous Brexit special election of May 17 we genuinely explored agreed candidates but couldn’t reach consensus. We were called tainted by nationalism by Alliance. This time they wouldn’t even engage. Our actions in South Belfast are about NI before party.

Almost 40% of households in Belfast have no access to a car/van. It's much higher in areas of deprivation. Belfast has been built to cater to private car users. We need reliable public transport and cycling/pedestrian priority and infrastructure in Belfast.
@BBCTalkback
You will hear a narrative over coming weeks that 1 MP can affect no change or that Westminster is not interested in NI. I will point to both Conor McGinn and Stella Creasey bringing equal marriage and abortion to NI as direct evidence to the contrary. Representation matters

Two years yesterday as Civil Partners. Not the two years we had planned but little one can do with a global pandemic.
Looking forward to conversion to a ‘full’ marriage when we can!
Calling out the reckless stunts by the DUP this week.
Meanwhile we face multiple crises in health, energy and climate which will disproportionately affect the most vulnerable.

Lots and lots of unionist men in north belfast advocating that unionist minded voters should only be offered an anti equality, climate denying, austerity championing, buccaneer brexiter unionism. Exactly symptomatic of why unionism is turning off potential unionists.
I’ve been getting harangued for the last 24 hours for calling out the DUPs homophobia and how it exacerbates Queer suicide. We are through the looking glass, as Queer activists can’t call homophobes, homophobic. I don’t think so. Here is the World Health Org being clear.
The piling in and cyber bullying of Emma Little Pengelly is actual quite disgusting. I vehemently disagree with almost all her politics but people here treat her like some virtual pantomime villain who is always fair game. Catch yourselves on.
Belfast City Council now corporately supports a rent control system for the City.
Now over to the executive and minister Hargey to make it a reality in her private renters bill.

Proud to stand in the counter demo at belfast city hall with

colleagues against anti immigration protestors and the fascist/racist manipulators. Great to see such a turnout at short notice.
Solidarity with all minority communities.
No parasan.
Some thoughts on the abortion debacle this week.
In July 2019, when Westminister changed the law to allow for same sex marriage & abortion campaigners were estatic with joy. Queer people and women have learned the hard way that out Assembly never/rarely delivers for us.
I'm soo pleased for

Slogged hard on the canvass for over 14 months. He got the most vile racist abuse on this platform but it didn't deter him and he just kept knocking and talking to residents.
And it paid off for him and the Cork Greens.

Almost 40% of households in belfast do not have access to a car or van.
Would you think it the way our city is built? Not at all - Built for commuters & wealthy car owners, air toxic in inner city & not conducive to walking.
Did it transform during Covid? Not a bit. Blame DFI
Happy with this clip. ‘We’re here,we’re queer and we’re visible and we’re not going to be treated differently. We will have our rights and they will be upheld. And that will be the battle of my lifetime.’
