It is with a heavy & broken heart I write this post.
Baby Muireann sadly passed away peacefully in the arms of her mum & dad.
On behalf of my family we would like to thank the amazing staff of the RVH & children's hospice.
Your kindness & love has helped my brother & Sister
My brother & sister laid their daughter to rest this morning, our hearts are so sore.
It was only last year we said goodbye to her brother, two beautiful babies who brought so much love to all our hearts.
Let me tell you that I love you & think about you all the time ❤️
On Saturday he sent me to the bookies, he didn't get a chance to punt his winnings.
Dad went peacefully this morning.
He is now with mum and we take comfort in that ❤ rest easy Da x
Tonight the Sinn Fein proposal for a travel ban has been voted down by the DUP, UUP and Alliance.
Only the SDLP voted in favour of the SF proposal.
This is failure to act and save lives. They have put the union before health. Shameful
Alot of outrage and sectarian comments for saying painting kerbstones and flags everyone is an eyesore.
It is.
I was told if I didnt like move to Dublin or stay in my own area.
This is my area, I put flowers in roundabouts, add value to your community not hostility ✌
I am honoured and humbled to have been nominated by Sinn Féin for the position of first citizen of Belfast. I will be the Mayor of all communities
I want to thank my family and community for their support, I want to do everyone proud. I wish my mum could see me now. ❤Edna
Surveillance operations and heavy handed policing at recent funerals and commemorations, but somehow this is ok.
Just a pandemic when it suits a narrative I suppose.
A plan to shoot up a school, primary school children and teachers.
Let that sink in
They wanted a civil war
British involvement in Ireland
#UnquietGraves
I’m extremely proud to have been selected as a
@sinnfeinireland
candidate for West Belfast for the upcoming Assembly election.
My objective is to work hard on the ground for the people of West Belfast & the Colin & if elected I will be a champion of our great community.
I will be donating my budget as Mayor to foodbanks across Belfast.
As Mayor of Belfast, my priority is the citizens.
I hope that this will help citizens across the city - from the Colin to the Newtownards Road, from Ardoyne to the Shankill.
Together we will overcome
#COVID19
Let's be honest if Mary Lou McDonald was Taoiseach Ireland would be in stronger position to fight covid19.
What we have is Male ego in government failing Ireland.
My mum would have been 80 today & what I would give to hold her right now.
Like so many families this year & last has been so hard.
My Christmas wish would be for our loved ones to enter our dreams tonight & let us know they are ok ❤
Happy birthday Mum
The death of a 13 year boy in London of convid19 with no underlying condition has me very unsettled this morning. Emotions of anger and sadness to know a young boy died alone, his mum couldn't be with him because of convid19.
Every life matters
As my first engagement as mayor of Belfast, I joined the picket line in solidarity with the health workers at the royal.
Last month Belfast city council passed a motion in support of the health workers.
Our health workers have my absolute support as mayor of Belfast.
I took the decision this evening to propose that Belfast postpones our St. Patrick Day parade
As Mayor of Belfast, I believe that there is an obligation on me to protect the health & well-being of citizens
I believe that this decision, however unfortunate, is in public interest
As first citizen I will write to all major shopping retailers to ask them to consider dedicating a time slot of opening for elderly/vulnerable citizens only. Iceland will be taking such measures in the kennedy centre.
We can work together and do our best to tackle convid19
To every young nationalist, unionist, republican and loyalist your brothers and sisters across the divide are not your enemy.
Support the GFA and work towards removing the walls of separation. When you know our history you will find we have more in common.
Peace
Last night DUP couldn't support a motion on climate change act. They want to march British armed forces through Belfast as a celebration. They took offence to a SF motion for having the words North of Ireland. Irish language was once again blocked.
Progressive??
I told my daughter Mia, that no matter what happens with transfer test, her result is only a comma in her life story not a full stop.
The transfer tests need to be scrapped.
Thinking of all the kids, parents & teachers as we wait on the results of the transfer test tomorrow.
Our beautiful little warrior Muireann sadly passed away this morning. She was loved so much by all her family.
We really want to thank our family and friends, all the staff of the RVH and Childrens Hospice who made our precious time with Muireann even more magical ❤️
@81leeanne
70% of all new cases in the north is the new variant of covid19.
Political parties would not stand with SF and impose a travel ban before Christmas.
Partition has allowed covid19 to run rampant.
We are an island and never once acted like it.
We have paid a heavy price
Tonight in Twinbrook a child was missing, our community responded in a way I have never witnessed before. Families came out and joined the search, doing so safely within their family units and keeping distance from others. Thankfully the child was found safe and well ❤
Sinn Féin and community activists removing a barricade from the Springfield Road.
We would appeal to the young people to please leave the area and for parents to contact their children.
There can be no repeat of last nights event, the people of our community deserve better.
Those who attack the Irish language and GAA must be insecure about their own identity.
I am a proud father of 3 Irish speaking, GAA kids. I bring them up to respect everyone.
I work for their futures and also the future of every child.
Teach love,
not hate.
With just over 2 weeks left as the Mayor of Belfast I want to thank everyone for their commitment in the fight against covid19.
As a council and as a city we made hard decisions at the right time and the work done by the chief executive and her staff has saved lives. Stay safe
We all have a story to tell and we should tell it. Our childhoods were not normal because of partition and that was the point of my tweet yesterday.
I found out there was no santa because a soldier deliberately threw our presents from the attic down the landing and laughed.
My last engagement serving this city and today was special. Rossa cycled round the falls park for 4 weeks raising over 2,500k for the hospice.
Amazing young man and this is what West Belfast is all about. ❤
We have been working today on tomorrow morning’s Nolan Ulster Radio Show.
The lead story will be uncomfortable , difficult and yet thought provoking radio.
9am.
Massive thank you to everyone who voted for Sinn Féin and all our activists, families and candidates for their tireless hard work. Delivering for our communities while bringing rights and equality to the heart of council.
#LE19
Leo said it this is the calm before the storm. W.H.O says test now Ireland has been and increasing but us in the north- no testing, schools open and even McDonalds has closed sit in.
Why are parties not demanding better? WHY WHY
Partition is going to cost extra lives and jobs.
Michelle along with many others have shown true leadership however behind all of this is a person. A daughter, a mother, a human being doing her best doing a time no one ever believed we would witness. Tonight I am proud of my friend and leader. ❤
When this is all said and done we must do things differently, fair pay for a fair days work. No more millions being made off the back of minimum wage workers and no more zero hour contracts. It wasnt too long ago the suits called those who are on the frontline unskilled workers
Delighted to have met Michel Barnier and personally thank him for all his hard work in protecting the Good Friday Agreement. The selfishness of Brexit poses a risk to all of Ireland.
In 1 week there have been threats and protests 👇
* To human beings staying in a hotel
* To 3/4 y.o's going to Irish nursery
* To a catholic family
2021 there should be NO such thing as a no-go areas.
It is shameful.
Time to deliver change
They never came here to protect.
They came to restore the status quo of that time and did so with brutality.
Carol Anne Kelly was a child murdered by the British army, no one has ever been held accountable.
Flags have appeared all over Belfast, 3 to a lamppost in many places.
Shared spaces have seen a significant rise in kerb painting and flags.
This is not about anything other than intimidation.
PSNI and DFI have failed to act
I will be taking a break from Twitter but can I ask those who have been very active to remember every single MLA and Minister is a human being.
They are not lazy or useless, they are worried for their families and businesses also.
These are most difficult times for everyone.
We will put together 100 parcels for our elderly and most vulnerable this morning. We use media not for applause but to raise awareness and let those who may need us that help is there.
Leaders lead
Sinn Féin is the biggest party in the executive. That is a little bit of history this morning.
The phrase nothing will ever change here, no longer complies.
One year ago today, unbelievable experience. It was a short spell but one I am so grateful for, I learnt so much.
A boy from Twinbrook who didnt even have a suit until the night before this picture 😎
SF and community reps are putting themselves at risk to protect the peace line this evening.
I appeal to everyone to go home this behaviour and destruction only hurts our communities.
Families living here deserve peace.
Once again the self proclaimed progressive parties of the Alliance and Greens vote against the Irish Language in BCC. It is wearing thin, we deserve equality.
Tomorrow we lay Josie to rest, I don't know were to begin with my thanks, from the nurses who cared for both our parents to the kind businesses who keep us all fed.
The love and generosity shown to my family over the past week has been truly humbling.
I called to the home of Teddy Dickson to wish him a happy 100th birthday. Teddy fought in WW2 and was part of the infantry that liberated Dachau concentration camp.
Tomorrow night RTE will air the story of Holy Cross primary school.
A shameful event from our recent history.
Our past has always been about civil rights. One community dominating another, power given and never earned.
We lived it.
We understand it.
Helping as many as possible today from elderly at home to nursing homes. I stopped by to see my friends of Brooklands and the outside disco was in full flow. It may be scary times but we are facing ot as a community. Stay safe
The new strain of covid19 is out of control in Britain.
Countries are banning travel from Britain, this is time for leadership.
Act fast
Act as an Island
All Ireland approach
1 year since we said our final goodbye, it has been a blink of an eye mum.
I miss you everyday, I would love nothing more than one more cup of tea with you. I know nothing stays the same but that doesn't stop me wishing.
Until we meet again. Love you ❤
Round up of this weeks events.
Masked criminals go unchecked by police.
Staff removed from ports under political direction.
Victim of a massacre arrested by heavy handed police
Repulsive language from DUP
Normal society?
My daughter is many things funny, smart & beautiful to name a few. She has worked so hard & wanted to sit the transfer test.
Best of luck to every child today, I wish it wasn't this way.
Remember today that you are all amazing and no test will define you or your future ❤
