This should be a massive park on Bruce Street. Link it the whole way to Gasworks via Bankmore Square and onto a new inner greenway to Lanyon place and beyond towards CS Lewis square. These are dead spaces....just for cars. Why can't we have nice things?
Hoardings are down at new Seamus Heaney centre for
@QUBelfast
. Nice to see the building again and with new planters, aesthetics surroundijg the building and benches.
Thanks to whomever has planted the new trees on Rugby Road , College Green etc. on the vacant concreted squares which have been vacant for years. Well done. 👏
@belfastcc
was this you? ❤️
This should be what Botanic looks like. Parklets for restaurants over past the footpath, planters for the rest with a disabled spaces too and a two way cycle lane on one side. Ideally this would be it.But no doubt a car lane would be needed as
@deptinfra
would need to be involved
Cleared the footpath of bins. THIS IS FOR PEOPLE. Pepes and
@boojummex
you will find you bins in the alleyway behind your property. Please do not block this footpath!!.
Imagine this on University Street on the Uni side linking Botanic with Queen's, with an already reimagined Botanic Avenue and a southside greenway linking this down Cameron st /McClure st towards the gasworks and beyond. Ah to dream.
Oxford City Council transformed Broad Street to "Broad Meadow" as a tactical experiment in 2021. 87% of users said the space had a positive impact on the community.
An ongoing 18-month 'phase 2' will inform permanent changes to the space.

I think I'm done with litter picking. I'm exhausted, my mums in hospital, noone seems to care about the world around them and even business don't seem to care. 2km litter pick, 2 full bags, half assed job by authorities.
Retail is no way to bring people into a city anymore unfortunately. It's buzzing up at Queens for their Comic Con. So many people about. Need events to bring people in. A culture day/night every week, a new way of thinking and some strategic thinking on events.
Nearing the finished article
@DanKitchener
bringing some needed colour to this area. Love it.
@AineGroogan
is about to do a media bit as Dep Lord mayor.
Here's when streets near me are empty of rubbish, alleyway bins have been emptied and alleys have been cleaned.
@belfastcc
This is the way it should be....always without me cleaning or reporting. It makes for a better place to live. Now for a well earned coffee and a scone.
1500 followers. Thanks to all those who follow me. I am trying to make Belfast a better place. I rant and rave but with reason. Hopefully we can change the local authorities and force them into action. I've recently got some funding and feel like the next step is closer than ever
See when people moan about parking in Belfast S. This is Uni st on a Sun morning. Residents don't make up much parking at all. Please try the bus, train or other forms of transport to get to work & this space could be purposed to be a lot more spectacular for those who live here.
The story of two South Belfast alleys. University Square Mews (
@QFTBelfast
back and other

buildings ) VS Wildflower Alley which I was enjoying briefly today. Which would you rather have as if I need to ask! 😡 Have you seen any worse?
When mature trees get in the way of necessary road works in Singapore, they just move them.
If you really value green infrastructure, there is another way. 🌳
After discussing yesterday the other side of LP with the arches here are reviewed plans for proposals for new offices on the site of an existing surface level car park east of Lanyon Place Train Station. 8-storey office building linked to the station.

This Spanish city centre has been car-free for 19+ years. 12k people have moved into the centre since the ban. The Mayor says vehicles don’t have more right to public space than people —& he’s been re-elected 4 times since banning cars. Pontevedra via

Dublin Road works today whole way up past Tesco to Shaftesbury. Bruce Street cordoned off also. Is this the cycling network being joined up. Work has begun on something anyway.
.Gonna give a wee positive tweet. Don't faint with shock. Positive Belfast things in 2021. Add if you think of more. 2 Royal avenue public ownership, cycle lane on dublin road kept and new cycle lane CastlePlace, Art Deco Bank of Ireland now in public ownership, Parklets (1/2)
Is this good enough? In a word NO. 11% walk to work? 3% cycling to work. That's a disgraceful stat. Belfast is such a walkable cycle distance of a city. Its the infrastructure is the issue.
@deptinfra
must do better.
Now dont faint with the shock. Parts of South Belfast including Botanic Ave & the areas I litter pick had very little to pick up. The bins are off the footpath at Mount Charles so I spent my time securing recycle bins lifted overturned bins & being happy Today is a good day 😊
Well done to all who helped clear up Collingwood green fenced area and Holyland streets today. Great to chat to everyone. Hoping to make this a monthly event. Little visit to my garden too. Amazing litter pick.
I am loving what we do in Belfast when it happens like today's Linenhall street parklet but I somehow feel we should have done this 6 months into the pandemic and been much more ambitious.
The City of Montreal has converted 13 streets in 7 boroughs into pedestrian boulevards complete with space for outdoor dining, public seating & social space, art installations & enhanced cycling & pedestrian routes.

Just litter picked holyland down near Collingwood. Its shocking how people can live with rubbish all around them?! Get a bag and a pair of gloves and lift some 😤
Ive been asked a few times this week why do you do it?answer is Why not? Its about civic pride for me. Would you be happy as a tourist in a city that can look shabby and that nothing works. Theres so many little hidden corners too. Look at this one behind
@frenchvillage
Botanic.
Cleaned Carmel street at Collingwood. A full bag!!!! I know there are factors like wind etc but people are just lazy. Pure lazy. Need a public bin here

Although i give
@Belfastcc
a lot to deal with I believe the workers do a great. If we just had street audits for places outside the city centre with regular deep cleans we would be onto a winner. Citizens also have responsibilities. Dont litter, dont dump, recycle♻️ and reuse.
Our street cleansing teams work hard to maintain our city.
Take a glimpse into the hard work of our nightshift city centre team & their efforts ⬇️
Thanks to the team for everything they do👏
Sprucing up the alleyway near to my adopted alleyway. Door was full of grafitti. Gonna ask the businesses if they would do the same. I'm loving this making your surrounding spaces better.

This is what should run down University st. New cycle lane, new trees, new pedestrian crossings. Whats not to love. Solves the parking on pavement problems, solves the connection problems, solves the urban tree coverage problem. We also need this on Bruce st & many more besides.
People obviously havent passed their tests. These need enforced by traffic cops. Saw traffic cops pass by today when this happened at Cromac st. Noone gives a f**k.
This morning.
@belfastcc
Have you ever thought of linking up with
@CivicDollars
@ReportAll
for resident payments for civic duties? Might be worth looking into. A bag of rubbish for a cuppa, or a system where you can save on council products bins, compost etc etc?
@isupportlhlh
I can only do so much.
@belfastcc
Please can you get all Eurobins emptied as soon as possible. Not tomorrow. asap please. Camden street. Already reported to open spaces.
Nice wee litter pick today. Also sorted recycling bins for those incapable of doing it themselves. Hopefully means there will be less rubbish to be blown round. I love South Belfast. Just wish everyone kept their litter in the bins or take it home. 😕
Also South Belfast. Clean in places, some done by me, most by
@belfastcc
, but theyre job is endless. We are responsible for our rubbish. That includes businesses.
@belfastcc
staff need to made aware not to block pavements and return bins to where they were emptied from!!!
@belfastcc
Why are there no cars in your image designed for you by a graphic design company no doubt. Are there plans to pedestrianise Royal Ave North St Junction? Please don't try and sell a utopia image if you don't follow through.
Little less graffiti on the walls today. Sure what else would you be doing? It takes less than 10 min too. Could we get a task force to do this constantly?
@belfastcc
Or at the very least could we get some paint for residents associations?
And here is why the war on cars needs to continue. A lady this morning with her guide dog trying to get to her local post box. Her normal route blocked by a car. Selfishness of some car drivers knows no bounds. (I asked if i could use her image)

. Two in a day that i caught. So if I can catch em why can't you. Leave and come home the rush hour or before and you'll find them. Enforce this lane. Bankmore/Dublin Road cycle lane again.
Testing new drone. Hover x1. Can follow. Lots of modes. Follow mode is so cool. Be doing some cool videos out in Mount Charles and Botanic soon. Might do a few alleys too.
Wow doesn't this graphic just sum up our dependence on cars. This definitely describes Belfast currently.
@deptinfra
continue the work you're doing but reverse your car centric views, link green spaces with cycle lanes, remove the car park bays (except disabled) and we will shine
Ive been sick for a week but i went for some fresh air yesterday and took picture of alleyway wildflowers. Everyone is commenting on them when passing as I nosey out the window. So gratifying to see.
Litter pick today. All cleaned in Uni st before Botanic, Camden st, Abercorn st and Uni road bit at tesco. No need to send anyone today if they are scheduled.
@belfastcc
New bus lane from Great Vic St to Dublin Road via Bruce St. No signs to tell of changes. The second vis is where it will be a sh***how for weeks until people realise. The traffic will be chaos. Be careful what lane you're in and cyclists be safe.
Knock Road junction. 7/8 pedestrians and cyclists not prioritised at this junction. We need to change our priorities. Even me in a car was shocked how long they waited and how small the pavement is for a school run area.
Good afternoon. I have been told that my idea for South Belfast (Belfast 2024 project) will be put out with others to a public vote. I will tell you over the next wee while what it involves. Hope you can come and vote for my idea at City Hall on June 2nd, 2-5pm.
#belfast2024
This is lovely. A few alleys in Belfast could be story alleys. Imagine a kids trip from school? They could be greened and made kid friendly. Time to think differently about our spaces.
Hop down to Haslem’s Lane to see our new street art based on local author Sam McBratney’s picturebook “Guess How Much I Love you", illustrated by Anita Jeram.
It's the 1st of a number of installations that will be popping up across the city this spring.
