It would seem that if one got their child an "ipad" they could include :
1. Duolingo
2. Khan Academy
3. Audio/Electronic Books
4. High quality music from a self-hosted server.
5. Lock the browser
And then: It becomes a net positive.

Yeah, I learned this from the internet in college. Things like sending a bunch of pennies in one of those envelopes, then asking them back because it was an error to ship them. Or sending things heavier than normal postage, etc. It's fun.

In college, I had like 4 dollars left for food after fixing truck and went to the grocer and huge jars of pickles were on sale for $1 each. Needed food until paycheck. A few days into my pickle only diet, I noticed through insane the hunger that pickles only have zero calories

In college, I was reduced to eating only bread, eggs, and cheese (cheapest calories I could get) because I hadn't saved enough the previous summer and didn't want to ask my parents for money. Lost 8 pounds over april/may.

I made this argument at the private school I worked at. I got my courses down to the point that the only homework as basically to appease some squeaky wheel parents and many other staff members down too.
But even in high school it is usually unnecessary. In Geometry almost zero.
