The DNR told me they won’t salt this bike trail because it’s bad for the environment… don’t mind the 8 lanes of salted highway right next to it though…
I really wish news orgs would call this what it is, a Capital Strike. Uber and Lyft could just raise prices and still operate here, but they've shown they're not in the business of providing a service, they're in the business of exploiting drivers for profit.
Minneapolis Mayor J. Frey: if Uber pulls out, the car-less, disabled, bartenders, late-night workers and out-of-town visitors will suffer. “When we do this policy, we have to do it right…These decisions have consequences.” City Council didn’t touch base with enough stakeholders.
"Concept 5: In order to improve accessibility to our great lakes and parks, we propose I-335W. This innovative project will save every driver 14 seconds, equating to an estimated savings of $17 billion given projected usage through 2099."
@soft_fox_lad
The reason it’s a problem is in smaller communities these are the only homes that exist so when they all get bought up by rich investors across the country, they can raise prices dramatically with no repercussions
@RandBallsStu
To be fair, after the last eclipse I witnessed stopped traffic on the interstate for as far as I could see, and that was in the middle of nowhere Wyoming! Statewide gridlock is definitely a real concern with this one

From what I can tell this trail was designed with proper drainage and runoff. Biking also requires about 5x less pavement than cars, so having reliably maintained trails is vital to reducing car trips and the need for salt on roads
"After getting some community feedback we have decided to add the 'Bde Maka Ska Causeway™️' in order to provide easier access to the large green spaces west of the lake. We will be naming the new northern section of the lake 'Lake Calhoun' in honor of our great heritage."

Buying homes and renting them out is already incredibly profitable at any home price, and even if they only own 20% of the rental market they can raise prices as much as they want because you can’t build new housing fast enough to offset it and people are reluctant to leave
@hipearlrose
I was just a stupid high school kid who didn’t know anything 😭 also worked in the gas station side of the grocery store so rarely had ebt transactions i guess
We’ll see how the trails get plowed by the end of the day but man is it infuriating that plows for cars run any hours of the night, but bike trails are only plowed during business hours… good thing people only use the trails between 9-5 Monday-Friday 🤦🏼♂️
Hey
@cityofsaintpaul
can we PLEASE get a dedicated bike path on Arlington? I’ve nearly gotten run over or doored on this stretch like once a week for the past year. It’s next to a lot of homes and a school I don’t understand why we wouldn’t want a safe bike path here.
@AShafferWX
@CrimeWatchMpls
It’s almost like they’re not here to keep locals informed and their true intent is just to stoke fear and hatred for the city
@OfficialJRat12
@RandBallsStu
It is very hard to predict the movements of millions of people lol no one did analysis on whether a random county road could handle that capacity
Free public transit is an actively good policy if it’s tied with literally any shred of effort to fund it in the million other ways we can fund transit
Anybody know who is putting up these fences? Their anti-pedestrian designs are ridiculous and seeing two of the exact same fence blocking pathways in a short period of time feels suspicious…
As a very small niche alcohol producer I am here to tell you that there are, in fact, very strict packaging & labeling regulations for anything alcoholic.
Like at a certain point the dumb actually is your fault & no one can help you
Has anyone ever actually done the math of what it would cost to have high frequency bus service 24/7 on every street in the twin cities? Do this, ban cars, profit
ADAM INVESTIGATES found that
@kstp
understands that this was a worker safety issue, not a corridor safety issue, but is stoking fear and expensive remedies for a no reason. Yet not one statement from a worker, just homeowners with too much time and a tape measure being pedantic.
The project manager of the controversial Southwest Light Rail is promising to find a solution after 5 INVESTIGATES found crews placed new light rail tracks about one foot too close to freight tracks in Minneapolis.
@benz145
This is entirely why I think we should try to get rid of IP! So much innovation is being stifled. Creators still need to be paid, but the works they create should all be open source for maximum cultural benefit
@JGeorge49
Read the draft, you’ll see that most of the city wants to bike but doesn’t because the infrastructure isn’t there yet. Shouldn’t the city give people what they want, a safe and connected network of trails? Not to mention less car drivers = less road maintenance and pollution
I am fascinated by how things that seem mildly interesting at first glance can secretly be among the most complex and deeply engaging subjects once you spend enough time learning about them
Winter 2023-24 was easily the warmest on record for the Contiguous U.S. according to Prism climate data - a full 0.75F warmer than the second place winter (2015-16). Areas in dark red had their warmest winter on record (since 1895-96). Places in regular red had a top 5 warmest.

Maybe make some progressive friends then? No one I know ignores history, we just acknowledge that the infighting of Native Americans is irrelevant to the genocide of their people as a whole.
@GymJorts
Classic NIMBY attitude. If they really are gardeners they should be excited at the opportunity to sculpt the area around the ramp to be a beautiful place. Change is good for the soul, especially in a garden
Ibuprofen is actually a pretty serious drug. The evidence of its connection to gastrointestinal issues is overwhelming, as well as kidney damage, heart attack, stomach ulcers, nausea, and increased risk of stroke. /s
Marijauna is actually a pretty serious drug. The evidence of its connection to schizophrenia is overwhelming, as well as lack of attention, memory loss, depression, social isolation and paranoia. Alcohol is also terrible, but no one except serious alcoholics are defensive about
@natehoodstp
What does all of that add up to as a percent increase in your monthly payment though? When the largest part of my monthly payment is an unchanging mortgage for 30 years then there's a huge amount of benefit I'm getting that renters miss out on without rent control

let’s prioritize active transportation this year so people can feel as safe biking as they do driving.
Maybe this is a hot take, but I don’t think we should spend $1.8 BILLION on a THIRD bridge connecting Duluth to Superior (a town of only 27,000 people)
New Trail! Finally got to ride on the new section of the Gateway State Trail between Arlington and Cayuga! Love how wide it is and the ability to go under Maryland Avenue
Funny how if a white guy like me posted this exactly thing no one would bat an eye, but because she is a Muslim all the comments are pointing out the fact she doesn’t specifically mention Catholicism...
Art and architecture have a unique ability to help us connect across our differences and bring people together in important ways. Thinking of the people of Paris and praying for every first responder trying to save this wonder.
@LauraGMitchell
Hoping I can convince the city to add these when they do the Dale Street 4-to-3 conversion! They seem pretty set on crappy bike gutters instead of a dedicated path so maybe this will help
@ThunderWolf08
Is there a reason why we're trying to build a bunch of new lines when the current ones are severely underutilized? I wanted to ride up to Fargo this past weekend but there's only one train per day and it's in the middle of the night
@yourpalborno
@Tedfest
@digitalFlaneuse
@mndnr
I don’t have a good pic of it but this trail does have curb gutters in parts of it! The rest likely just drains into the same drainage field that’s between the trail and the highway
@soft_fox_lad
Except it is enough to shape the market! By outbidding local buyers they raise the “market value” of the properties they buy, thus allowing them (and all other landlords) to raise they prices
