Just paid my rent. This month marks two years in my place in Minneapolis. In that time, my rent has stayed the same. Also in that time, my neighborhood has added about 670 units of housing. A further 620 are under construction. Housing abundance is the best rent control policy.

After riding LA's transit all week, I have some thoughts about it in comparison to the Twin Cities. These are both places in the midst of major transit expansions, with many large capital projects in various stages. But the approach taken by each place is quite different.

I'm open to "downtown sucks" discourse because it's not wrong. Not for the reasons *certain people* say it is. I don't feel unsafe downtown, I just feel bored and excluded. It's a very hostile place, and that's on purpose. But it doesn't have to be that way.

The Twin Cities grocery market really sucks. Cub's never very nice, Target's always out, Kowalski's and L+Bs are soo expensive, Aldi never has what you need, HyVee is scared of the city, there's just not many great options.

Metro Transit generally needs to celebrate itself more. They run an anomalously successful light rail system, a nation-leading BRT program, a high-quality bus system, and have an ambitious capital plan. Does the average Twin Cities resident know about any of these? Probably not!
