Let’s hope new St. Paul city council looks at actual evidence, and ignores anecdotes from activists and text book theories from college kids that got us in the horrible situation we are in now with housing under rent control
I spoke to an owner today who sold a building in 2015 in Harlem. It sold for $215,00 per unit and had 0 violations. Today it has 380 open violations, is in the AEP program, and would sell for about 90k per unit based off a building that sold across the street. In ten years the building went from functioning and well kept to falling apart and virtually worthless. What changed? The 2019 rent law. Who benefits? Certainly not the renters. There’s no hope for this building under the current rent stabilization system. The renters inside it are trapped and its a disgrace.
