@HousingSpock I know these people don't literally believe that homes give birth to human beings, but they argue as if more housing creates more people. It never registers that 100 more apartments on that island mean 1,000 fewer single family homes somewhere else (housing shortage aside).

@APazyryk @UsingLyft First off, stop saying “capita” and say “person.” If that’s not enough reformulate the stat in terms of for every hundred people or every thousand people: For every hundred black people, X graduate from high school. For every hundred Asian people, Y graduate from high school.

@daglihet @Appyg99 Europe has a better standard of living for those who prioritize relaxing, but not for those who prioritize work and accomplishment.

@decadimitry The problem is underproduction. We have 5-10 million too few homes, so bidding wars (market rate) and long waitlists (below-market rate) are rampant. The car analogy only works if regs cut the production capacity in half and car prices skyrocket. Not the case, so false analogy.

@lymanstoneky Technically there is a pile of cash. It's just $2.8T and there are about $1.2T in payments each year, so with no new revenue it would only last 2.5 years.

@whstancil Why is this presented as a choice? They are both scary. TikTok has perfected the most addictive, trance-inducing algorithm. It also sends information to the CCP and might have its algorithm modified to sow unrest in the US.

@TXVB @highway61duluth Slower traffic during busy times is worth millions more per year in tax revenue to Duluth, and the improved quality of life for those who live in that neighborhood vs those who are just passing through.

@RachelPAV @BriannaWu Elon Musk is the poster child for this. I won't soon forget Musk's "message received" after being told by a California legislator to go fuck himself after wanting to open his factory during covid. Very soon after he swung to the alt-right, or whatever one calls it.

@StatisticUrban I preferred 4 seasons when I was young. Now as I grow older winters in the north are tough. An aging population is definitely a factor here, and will continue to be for some time.

@JohnDSailer Resentment like this has the moral status of a progressive who insists the govt build more low income housing but opposes any effort to build it near his house. Loves DEI as long as it doesn’t inconvenience him.

@aselrod @NGrossman81 Yes, everyone has. The problem is that catering to people who won’t compromise will lose votes from the more numerous center, and then they still won’t vote for Biden. So, double loss.

@conorsen An odd statement. Given how it builds, if Austin truly had the fastest rent growth, it would also have the fastest population growth. How is this a knock on YIMBYs? The price increase would be even higher if Austin didn't build, or do supply and demand not apply in real estate?

@Rick85186330709 @eyeslasho I’m old enough to remember that too, and that I was a high scoring white male who didn’t know the answer. It wasn’t bias by race so much as by class.
