A friend of mine decided to follow his passion in a non-tech role, got an MBA and now certainly earns more than SDE-2(his YOE equivalent). The way techies look down upon non-tech roles is disappointing. Over the long term, you can earn way more doing what you love.
SDE 3 has higher than pay of many other fancy titles in non-tech functions. see many folks from top colleges look down upon dev roles because "coding is not my thing". only to find out 10 years down the line that "pursuing my passion" might be less effective in practicality.
