@parker_lackey @ZachWarunek I said this exact thing to my girlfriend earlier and she just looked at me funny.

@shinboson Race-based awards aren’t unethical because they favor one group over another, but because the criteria for being favored is race Inheritance is ethical because favoring one’s own children is I don’t condemn the guy, but he displayed a lack of courage, so my sympathy is limited

@simonsarris I also wanted to make an honorable mention: math. 80 years of benefits, times 30 people, times $20k per year, is $50 million dollars. With interest, the net cost to the government is around $300 million.

@Archadius7 @KennethCassel Yeah I think the original post was satire, but you’re definitely right. The thing is, Optimus won’t be wielding a chainsaw. It will be: 1) In a factory building these machines for half or a tenth the cost 2) Piloting the machine in place of a human

@tracewoodgrains The quoted post is dishonest at best 1) Litmus test questions like these have always been always been par for the course. This is nothing new 2) The risk posed by saboteurs is potentially existential. It’s been made clear the bureaucracy will try to undermine them at every step

@giffmana @andrewgwils I hope this is sarcasm. The most dangerous institutions are the ones who claim to stand for your rights while discretely undermining them.

@vazserox @yacineMTB Come on bro, that’s not a fair comparison. Elon has an army of assistants and staff to manage his daily affairs. He doesn’t have to worry about his family’s home or their food, he doesn’t have to consider in detail his kids’ medical or educational needs, etc.

@APazyryk @mariaforx @eigenrobot You are a shining example of why the institutions can and will be utterly destroyed. “2x Ivies.” Get wrecked.

@APazyryk @mariaforx @eigenrobot SpaceX has two commercial rockets currently in service: the Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy. The Falcon 9 is the most reliable rocket ever produced, with over 400 successful launches and a success rate of 99.7%. The Falcon Heavy has a success rate of 100%. You’re out of your depth.

@APazyryk @mariaforx @eigenrobot Government contracts are competitive, and Blue Origin, ULA & others are regularly awarded them. Years ago SpaceX sued the government to open the bidding process to new entrants. No other company has even landed an orbital class booster. Are you done making things up?

@EvridgePope @mcrs987 I think the simple version is that SLS is an egregious misallocation of resources, and that doesn't just mean financial capital. The rebuttal is "momentum." But it must be stopped eventually. Every day NASA spends not refocusing resources on other projects is a waste.

@I_Like_Buttes @ns123abc There are differences between the two situations, yes. This is a fact. You've explained how the two are different, qualitatively. These differences are factual. You then posit that these differences are large enough to make the two situations incomparable. This is an opinion.

@APazyryk @eigenrobot Like, if the only reason for SpaceX's success is their engineering talent, and after nearly 10 years no other company has succeeded, you must believe that every other company has absolute dogshit engineering talent, no?

@I_Like_Buttes @ns123abc It's more evidence than exists for the claim that cutting the government workforce will guarantee a recession.
