people seem very confused about how potholes are created.
As a Portland City Commissioner Candidate, I refuse to turn a blind eye to the mismanagement of taxpayer dollars by PBOT. It's outrageous that while our roads crumble beneath us, PBOT has squandered precious resources on ill-conceived road diets. Their fixation on promoting

"No one is forcing you to drive"
@ReesWimmer No one is forcing you to drive, but it is very clear that there is a move to push cars off the road. Red Line, Blue Line, Vision Zero. all are about limiting cars and limiting mobility. That's wrong. It should be stopped.

Dangerous drivers damaging their own cars instead of maiming & killing other people is how traffic calming is supposed to work.
Concrete planters for calming traffic removed after frequent collisions . - @PBOTinfo thought 2,500 pound planters would do the trick. So did we! .

@youdontpost yes, personally in these kinds of scenarios I follow the advice usually given to motorcyclists not to go more than 10 mph above the speed of traffic, but cars driving across stopped traffic should be doing it carefully.

It should be safe to ride on any street that's not a freeway.
Who TF does this with an infant? This is on a very busy main thoroughfare in an area where there are so many accidents that they keep adding light-up crosswalks. I looked into the stroller to see if there were groceries but nope, it was a human baby.

"Bikers should be fined for exiting the bike lanes".
@ob_cycler All cyclers should be required to pass a city riding test, to make sure they know how to ride a bike and navigate a city. Required to register their bikes with the city, these fees will go towards building their bike lanes. Bikers should be fined for exiting the bike lanes and.

Even if you somehow sprint (the engineers assume you don't have any mobility challenges) across in the literal 2 sec you get a green walk signal, left turning drivers still try to run you over.
@fox12oregon Maybe just maybe pedestrians and bicycles should go safely, using crosswalks and obeying traffic laws, understanding that vehicles can kill.

@RichardWellings If they succeed then how will they replace road tax and petrol duty?.Will cyclist end up paying even more per mile?.

@ErinChack don't do that.red curbs serve many purposes: daylighting intersections for pedestrian safety, creating space for people to safely board buses, creating safe lanes for people to bike, among others.

You need an additional sign to tell you to stop at red lights?.
@Boenau If the cameras are supposed to be a deterrent, why aren’t there gigantic signs at intersections to deter people rather than intentionally hidden cameras with little to no signage. Answer - they are intended to maximize revenue not increase safety.

Why we can't "just go around" cars parked in bike lanes ⬇️.Because entitled drivers act like children and use their cars as weapons.
Since we don’t have proper protected bicycle infrastructure in DC, people think it’s ok to park in bike lanes. Here is an example of the direct and absolutely terrifying result of stopping in the bike lane. @DDOTDC @DCGovernment @DCCarViolence @dc311

How is my dad supposed to get thru with his walker?. What about people with wheelchairs or strollers. There's a reason it's against the law to block the crosswalk. And btw nyc is not the only city in the world with gridlock.
@Boenau No one in this vid is even minimally bothered because they’ve all driven or ridden in cars in NYC and know this is how you use a car in the city. No one wants to sit at a light for a half hour.

@kemcdonell Or, I'll use just my remote start in my car, and it'll be nice and cool when I get in. No amount of breeze from your bike is going to equal the comfort that a CHILD should have to go from point A to point B when it's 100 degrees outside!.

We were supposed to get a protected intersection here, but the traffic engineer cancelled it because he was worried about a slight decrease in traffic flow on a street 100% parallel and redundant to the 8 freeway. But no, it's the children that are the problem.
The best way to create a culture of safety is to focus on young children who have yet to have unsafe behaviors ingrained, unlike teenagers and adults. Early road user education isn't the only answer to the road safety crisis, but it's certainly a major part of the solution.

Your reminder that the ENTIRE point of bike lanes is to keep us out of traffic. That's for our safety but is also more convenient for drivers. When bike lanes are chronically obstructed, it's safer just to ride in the street instead of repeatedly merging in and out of traffic.

@YRP Please explain this - guy in e-bike with no registration or insurance using full lane, doing 30kmh in a 50kmh zone. How is this fine? When cyclists ride in groups they do the same thing. Then cut through all the cars at red lights to get back in front. This is not fine.

@chrisspangle Bike riders are the worst. You wait and wait for a chance to pass them safely and put them in the rear view. Then you're stopped at a light and they go busting ass right by you. Now you're behind them again. 8 out of 10 times they do not stop.

Ban right turn in red. It's a privilege that drivers have proven they aren't responsible enough for.
Everyone knows that at a red light, you’re required to stop—it’s one of the most basic rules of the road. But how can a driver’s attempt at intimidation ever be justified when the cyclist is simply following the law? . See where it happened on @UpRideCC.

Or we could design streets that are safe for everyone. The reason people feel like they need this is because vehicle speeds are prioritized over safety.
