It's almost mind blowing how planners and politicians have decided that it's better for you to share a room in a 150 year old run down crack house with 7 other people, than live here.
Hey Premier
@fordnation
, BC is ready to build the housing that has been missing for too long in communities across Canada. There is a lot we can work on together like:
✅Single Egress stairs
✅Mass Timber Building codes
Wishing you + your family safe holidays season.
Ok so Chicago has
Beautiful walkable public spaces (that even have benches)
Tons of missing middle and lower housing costs.
Higher salaries
Much better tacos
What the fuck am I doing in Toronto? I thought we at least were better on public spaces or something.
Holy shit Edmonton
"Three-storey apartments, row houses, supportive housing, lodging houses, duplexes, fourplexes, courtyard housing, and tiny homes would all be allowed in the new RS zone. Backyard and garden suites would also be permitted."
The comments are vile. Nothing wrong with eating in a public place. Huge benefit of transit for me over driving is you can do whatever you want on transit and don't need to be focused. Have a busy day, transit doesn't get in the way.
At a development meeting and I asked why they don't make the entire podium a tower and make it even taller
This right after the architect just explained how it's designed so it doesn't look tall and won't have too many shadows
Needless to say his face was in shock after I spoke
That this coffee shop serves alcohol and is open till midnight shows Toronto is really starting to move in the right direction.
More new towers like this!
No, you can’t have free parking. Parking is not a human right. It’s a scarce resource that should be priced accordingly. Stop externalizing the costs of your car ownership onto others.
No, the single mom that can't get on line 1 everyday on her way to work won't show up to a public consultation.
No, the international student who will move into a rooming house in East York in 2030 and be stuck on a bus won't show up to a public consultation.
Going to respond to it because it sounds like nobody gets how important these YouTubers, even NJB, are.
The fact that so many people watch their videos gets it into the mainstream. That I can go to a party and people talk to me about urbanism is a direct consequence of these
After seeing *the* video, I’m not entirely sure how to feel. I hope that my videos have had an impact even though I don’t explicitly mention going to city council meetings or getting engaged in most non-Toronto ones.
When I talk to older people, they often tell me how they scrimped and saved in order to buy their first house.
I rarely see young people doing this, and was trying to explain why. Everyone is spending their hard earned money.
I think it's just because home ownership is so out
The item as amended CARRIES 18-7. Multiplexes WILL BE LEGAL IN ALL OF TORONTO. Without FSI maximums. With permissions to make them feasible. (Pending appeal by residents associations).
People are DESPERATE to take the streetcar yet somehow we can't run enough for them.
The TTC is literally losing paying customers because streetcars are full and then we wonder why ridership isn't back up and we don't have revenue.

An inspiring, and absolutely freezing, rally held by
@BOLDCoalitionTO
to save the Osgoode Hall historic trees this evening. I was delighted to participate and support their efforts. Metrolinx, put down your chainsaws and work with us for a better outcome.
A car in traffic will average like 30km/hr.
A ebike can easily coast at 30km/hr and requires no lights or traffic.
Remind me again why we drive everywhere?
Co-ops are the single most overrated housing tenure available and their supposed community benefits are primarily due to social self selection for the most community-minded and convincing the rest of us to give them free or cheap land
It's funny how when discussing the greenbelt, on the one hand it's super important farmland, and on the other it's a super important center of biodiversity. These cannot both be true!
You gotta give the TTC credit for the quality of our bus screens. Sometimes it shows you only the time, yes. But other times the time dissapears and you only get a useless number!
Transit NIMBYism is the worst example of prioritizing current residents over future ones.
"I know this line will get a million riders a day once completed, but we need to ensure the 10 residents who live near this station are not impacted!"
God I hate community consultations.
"Housing is one of the most challenging parts of our city"
No its not! We've been building housing for thousands of year! We only DECIDED to make it challenging!
She lost and she's still going on about this? Give me a break man. The property tax is going to barely be felt, is taxing (mostly) unearned income, and is only really on the wealthiest in the city.
A 10.5% tax hike would be felt by Torontonians across this city.
This budget process is an opportunity to examine potential efficiencies and identify new revenue sources so the burden doesn’t lie solely with the taxpayer.

@CP24
How many drivers are ignoring the rules on the King Street transit corridor?
The Star shot video during rush hour on January 16, 2023, showing how many driver were obeying the rules on the King Street transit priority corridor.
Full story:
BC out here like "yes, a province CAN just fix the housing crisis if they want to. Doesn't take long to fix everything if you make one big change per week."
Another important step - finding ways to build differently. ✅
Today, we announced proposed changes to the BC Building Code to enable taller

buildings, from the current limit of 12-storeys...
To as many as 18-storeys! Or 9-storeys without encapsulation! 🙌🏾

The Housing Minister seems to think we have a "first time home buyers" crisis here in Canada, not a housing crisis. There's tens of thousands of dollars of incentives for first time home buyers! But no amount of subsidies can help when prices are this high, with rents to match.
What is the federal government doing about get affordable housing built? Are they matching Pierre Poilievre's rhetoric?

…We’ve now learned that critical steps weren’t taken by TTC staff to move the project ahead, such as completing an Environmental Assessment- that delayed the busway yet another 8 months…
@theJagmeetSingh
Here is the project the NDP is opposed to. What
@theJagmeetSingh
calls “luxury” is actually 80% of market and some full market housing. What he doesn’t say is how the below market housing is co-developed with an Indigenous partner
So excited to see the TTC making progress on this new entrance at Wellesley Station! For the last 2 years it's been finished, but locked off with a wooden plank. This week, they added some hazard tape!
Motion by

to speed up RapidTO passes! 🥳👏
Thank you Mayor Chow and Councillors for listening to transit users about the need for a more reliable

.
This is a win for the climate, a better TTC, and people power. Congrats to all who spoke up + took action!
Since it's not clear to all this tweet was meant as sarcasm! Toronto planners spend a lot of time and energy trying to reduce the shadows on an area from new buildings. But spend almost none making beautiful spaces like this!
