@ProfAlang When my daughter was young the pedi was like "is she breastfed" and I was like "yes" and she was like "are you having any trouble breastfeeding" and I was like "I'm not the one breastfeeding her" and she just looked puzzled. TWO MOMS!.

@HannahPosted Officially, vacate the space and call animal control. Unofficially, burning down the building.

@mollyfleck @Eric_Erins But they also don't know enough yet to have good work boundaries, which I think is the main draw.

@JoePostingg People are very weird about this. I cook small quantities, 2-4 servings per dish, I freeze extra portions, and I reuse ingredients. I seldom eat something more than twice in a week.

@OliveFSmith I have an 8 year aged cheddar in the fridge, it thinks Trump is just a dude with a reality TV show.

@tehoriman Eventually. But if electrification is in any way a trade off with service frequency, I’d choose frequency every time.

@franklinleonard I came out to my parents when I was 29. I told them the person they thought was my good friend was actually my girlfriend, and my dad said “I thought so, I figured it out when she drove you to Toledo at 3 a.m. to catch the train.”.

@HannahPosted @nilocobau $1250/month in miscellaneous is doing a lot of the work here. Hard to critique what’s not included.

@ENPancotti The ability to convert an hourly wage to an annual salary is something I learned to do when I worked hourly jobs. Except I never hit that “salary” because my boss was always screwing us out of hours. Which is common!.

@Noahpinion The conflation of health insurance and health care has always been weird to me. Everyone has access to some health care, but the way we pay for it is all messed up.

Western and 31st is the geographic center of Chicago, which means the El Milagro tortilla factory is the literal heart of the city.
@greenfieldjohn @Tripadvisor LOL, he's literally eliminated like 75% of the area of the city with this nothing south of Madison nothing west of California.

@SkotiVi @the_del_taco @mrbergmann @unusual_whales I see the calculator you used. Assumed no 401k tax savings, which is wrong. Assumed 100% of income is subject to sales tax, also wrong. 39% vs. 50% tax rate is a $44k per year tax difference.

@Noahpinion Some of this is that the CDC was hobbled by the Trump administration, but the Biden administration hasn't turned it around.

When @Noahpinion tweets agreement with @mattyglesias, it's like catnip for fact-free objections to things that are true.

@constans I don’t know, and I’m very confused about her understanding of her risk profile. Only a few conditions and treatments that prevent you from mounting an immune response to the vaccine.

@Noahpinion Best reason to have kids is you really want to have kids. Some people seem to miss this step, then take out their bitterness on people who enjoy children.

@besttrousers I took the time to dispute his claims, which is its own kind of sickness.

@HannahPosted @nilocobau But $6k rent is not a given in Manhattan, and living in Manhattan is actually a luxury good itself.

@MattZeitlin @nilocobau That Emily Gould piece is super insufferable, she takes extremely minimal responsibility for herself and is like "I had to learn how to not try as hard" as her solution for her marriage? Whatever.

@HannahPosted @nilocobau I think that’s a pretty reasonable amount for a few years in. It’s a little further into your career that salaries diverge wildly for finance and tech vs. other fields.

@Curve125 Every major push at healthcare reform has been followed by a (temporary) slowing of cost growth. One theory is it’s the system (insurers and providers) becoming cost conscious to avoid further push for reform. Source: someone showed a graph in grad school.

@grahamwalker My son had a measles scare and I’ve never seen people move as fast as the ED staff getting us into a negative pressure room.

Ah yes, driving manual, the skill of my ancestors.
Normalize buying land with your siblings/closest friends and raising your families together. Teach your kids how to farm, cook from scratch, harvest herbal medicine, drive manual, start a fire, preserve food, and any other real world skills your ancestors were taught.

@clhubes This is VERY cultural. It is common for well off white kid birthday parties, but it is unheard of in Latino culture. We said "no gifts" for our daughter's 7th birthday and everyone came with cash! I was mortified.

@_madisontayt @Tyre_94 It feels extra weird because mental illness ruins lives and kills people, and a cutesy Lexapro shirt moves us from an honest narrative and the hard work of real destigmatization to a cheeky allegedly anti-stigma message that totally misses the point.

It's only a home if it's from the "not Pennsylvania" region of New Jersey. Otherwise it's just a sparkling property.
@JohnFetterman I have 10 properties (disclosed when I announced). 2 homes. My turn: when can we debate?.

There are about 500 unaccompanied minors in detention in Chicago, mostly in detention facilities run by @heartlandhelps. A reminder that one way children are "unaccompanied" is being separated from their parents by CBP.

@SkotiVi @the_del_taco @mrbergmann @unusual_whales Even if I throw you a bone and say all non-rent expenditures are subject to sales tax, that's only $13,371 in additional sales tax, which brings us to 43% effective.

@Drnicolecb I'm so sorry. My milk never came in due to previous breast surgery, I hate that people assume breastfeeding is an easy solution. I've heard ready to feed is more available because it is more expensive. Locally in Chicago I've seen small cans at smaller local stores.

@notkavi You are arguing that the most important place of worship in a literal city-state under the jurisdiction of the Catholic church should not be subject to the jurisdiction of. the Catholic church? It's just "a historical building"?.
