@tresdessert @neipate96 @errollouis @sam_d_1995 NYC subway 2 billion, LIRR 65 million, MN 60.5 million, NJT commuter 57 million, NJT light rail 17.8, PATH 55.1 million. All combined 2.255 billion trips for NYC, with another 5-8 million commuter trips on Amtrak. Dunno what to tell you.

@JKTBurgess Hurt, sure, but much less important than a dozen other issues that the same people care about more.

@mdasilva1563 @_NotA_Bot_ @sam_d_1995 I don't mean the ACTUAL PANYNJ, but a hypothetical one. The problem with a national or northeast wide owner, outside of Amtrak's NEC ROW is that it would necessarily neglect parts that would get attention on a local level. Or should, if politicians weren't all so car brained.

@mdasilva1563 @_NotA_Bot_ @sam_d_1995 Yeah I think this is key, TfL/National Rail are two owners here, and they're not opposed in operations in the way that MTA-subway, MTA-LIRR, MTA-MN, NJ Transit, PATH and Amtrak are opposed. Just give PANYNJ control over everything except the explicit subway network within NYC

@mdasilva1563 @_NotA_Bot_ @sam_d_1995 Another reason to ignore the actual definitions for comparison's sake here and just address the total trips taken.

@_NotA_Bot_ @mdasilva1563 @sam_d_1995 Nothing with comparable stop spacing in Paris because Paris is so much smaller on a physical level to NYC though

@mdasilva1563 @_NotA_Bot_ @sam_d_1995 How does the ownership of the actual railways work? Tokyo famously has over 9000 operators, but not 9000 infrastructure owners.

@_NotA_Bot_ @mdasilva1563 @sam_d_1995 You also have to remember that NYC commuter rail is 5 different agencies running their own independent operations, which doesn't allow basically anything RER or Transilien do.

@nolan_173843 @neipate96 @errollouis @sam_d_1995 I mean there's no perspective here, the Yamanote line has many more people using it daily than RER A.
