The
@pamsson
thread made me feel the same way. If you'd like to talk about baseball writing, Trent certainly has more to offer but I'd be happy to help as well. If you'd like to talk about fantasy sports, I can do that too.
This is something I’ve noticed, thought about and been bothered about — but haven’t DONE enough about. I have such privilege to have the place and voice I have. Please, please, please. If you are an aspiring baseball writer who is black, brown, Asian, LGBTQ or female, I am here
~$15 million: What the Mets paid David Wright for 584 games in 5+ seasons from 2004-2009 in which he hit .309/.389/.518 with 140 HR, 561 RBI, 119 SB and 552 R.
Also included: 4 ASG appearances, 2 Gold Gloves, 2 Silver Sluggers & 3 top-10 MVP finishes.
$52,349,727: What David Wright has made in game checks since the last game he played (5/27/16).
The Mets will recoup a little more than 70 percent of that cost through an injury insurance policy.
@SB_Duggan
I think it comes down to Utley being an elite 2B and being a better all-around player than Holliday, which is reflected in his 64.5 WAR vs. Holliday's 44.5.
OF is really deep with Beltran, Andruw, Sheffield (outfielder in name only, I guess) and Abreu on the ballot.
I won't have a Hall of Fame vote until next year ... so as a bit of a dry run, here's my would-be ballot:
Derek Jeter
Larry Walker
Curt Schilling
Barry Bonds
Roger Clemens
Scott Rolen
Todd Helton
Billy Wagner
Gary Sheffield
Andruw Jones
More:
It's hard to put into words what
@lawrmichaels
meant to the fantasy sports industry and to me personally. A huge loss for all of us. Truly one of a kind.
@Rudiger_Simpson
My vote isn't putting Rollins in. And I doubt he ever makes it. But A-Rod admitted using PEDs and was suspended for an entire season. I don't think we can overlook that when PEDs were a major part of baseball history during his career. That's my rationale.
The ultimate road trip?
@LAAngelsUK
flew across the pond to see his favorite team play ... and the experience was one he'll never forget. A tale of no sleep, a no-hitter and everything in between.
@Devlinside123
It's a reporter's job to be objective and have a broad perspective. While some biases will always come into play, it's our responsibility to be aware of them. Not so with players/managers.
Megan is quite good at her job, so I have no issue at all with her opinions on the Hall.
I don't get out to as many spring training games as I once did, but Jordan Walker's 4-for-4 game with a rope double and two mammoth HRs (both on two-strike counts) may have been the most impressive spring performance I've ever witnessed.

There's so much else going on in the world that this may not create any ripples at all. But for people in my small corner of the sports universe, perhaps there's something here worth pondering.

John Smoltz and others who are tying "an emphasis on analytics" to the Astros cheating are so far off base.
Any team could have developed an algorithm within the rules. It was 100% what the Astros DID with the information that was wrong. That's on them, not analytics.
We wrestled with whether or not to put out Sports Weekly's annual
#fantasybaseball
issue. It came down to the fact that we had the info and it might give people a needed distraction from everything else.
So if you do venture out in the next week, consider picking up a copy.

@EddieBaseball
I did vote for Ortiz. He was never suspended for testing positive. The survey test results before MLB enacted its official testing policy were not supposed to be made public. Even if he did use PEDs then, he falls into the same class as Bonds and Clemens, who also got my vote.
@ESPNPR
This is just horrible news. Pedro was incredibly kind and welcoming to me when I first started covering MLB games. I will always remember his kindness and his baseball knowledge. He will be missed terribly. Prayers go out to his family and his ESPN family.
Tomorrow evening,
@FSGAtweets
will induct the late Lawr Michaels into the Fantasy Sports Hall of Fame. It's a tremendous and well-deserved honor for fantasy's one and only "Zen Master."
@hurdlecoach87
I definitely take defense into consideration. But with Vizquel, I see a below-average hitter who played for a long time. A complier with an 82 OPS+.
@Rams18and2
@SB_Duggan
All WAR is is a combination of "real" stats.
Based on all the information I have, I think Utley deserves to be in the Hall. But my vote isn't going to be the difference in him being in or out. If it is, then maybe he really WAS elite after all.
@BeschlossDC
I was working at my college radio station. Our AP wire ticker was just outside the newsroom door. Every so often, it would ding. Once for an advisory. Twice for breaking news.
That day, it started dinging like a slot machine. We were stunned. Then had to go on-air with the news

Three chops in the first inning. It almost seems that Braves fans are doing it MORE now just because people are complaining and saying they shouldn't be doing it at all.
So closed-minded.
@Stouthamer17
I wasn't sure about Utley going in, but his defensive metrics say he should have won multiple Gold Gloves. He was a key cog in the Phils' run of division titles. Clutch playoff performer too.
And credit to
@jay_jaffe
: His 59.7 WAR from 2005–14 trailed only Albert Pujols‘ 67.7.

Will write about it at some point. Manny - best hitter on the ballot besides Bonds, but doubtful because of failed tests once MLB took issue seriously. Abreu - very good player, but never one of the best.

Speaking of hustling, don't overlook Anthony Rendon busting it down the line to beat out a double play in the fifth, one batter before Soto's two-out, two-run double.
If the Astros turn that, they're out of the inning down just 3-2.
