The players who went to that club should be sent home until 2021, and the organization should be fined. Multiple teams thrown into disarray because a couple Marlins couldn’t control themselves. Brutal.
If you're looking for a reason to unfollow me, I somehow managed to select all three members of the Orioles outfield during the Mixed
#LABR
draft last night.
With so many drafts this weekend, my tip is to ignore bad closers. Pretend they don’t exist. If you don’t want to punt saves, then pay for two RPs who can at least give you 75+ SO and a low 3.00’s ERA. But I would rather own Chad Green than guys like Boxberger or Romo.
The
@astros
still don't get it. They don't need a plan or a strategy for today. Just have each player explain what they did wrong and how they feel about it now. Be honest. That's all the public wants. It's not that complicated. We learned this stuff in kindergarten.
I'm excited to announce that I will be regularly contributing to Yahoo fantasy baseball coverage throughout the 2019 season! I'm a little worried about the inevitable rookie hazing from
@scott_pianowski
,
@andybehrens
and
@daltondeldon
, but I've survived worse!
After looking at the respective saves and holds leaders lists, I can't figure out why there is so much resistance to SV+HD as a category. Let's get to a place where we look at RP skills over managerial tendencies/preferences.
Happy Opening Day, everyone! I'll be rolling out a few big announcements today. The first one is that I will be contributing multiple articles each week to the great team at
@BaseballHQ
this season! My first article is here. Enjoy!
The treatment of young MLB players is hard to watch. Nico Hoerner isn’t 19....he’s 23 and easily good enough to help the Cubs. Good 23-year-olds aren’t forced into the Minors in any other sport. Hopefully this is something that changes in the coming years.
A few days ago it was Jimenez. Today it's Mondesi. This weekend it will be someone else. Injuries happen. If your team doesn't have injuries, it will. Managing injuries is a major part of success in this game. Stop staring at your draft results and start grinding to build depth.
No matter who wins tonight, we will have 4 teams remaining who were among the consensus elite clubs heading into the season. A 60-game schedule worked fine. An 8-team playoff worked fine. Many fan bases were excited and had hope. And in the end, the right teams are still playing.
Nothing in 2019 baseball bothers me more than the lineup the Indians are choosing to send out in support of their ridiculous rotation. Useful outfielders aren’t that hard to find.
The NFL Covid issue isn't going away. For fantasy football managers, if you're considering someone in the Thursday game each week, use him. Bank the stats. Avoid having to take a zero (or use an undesirable option) if things fall apart around the league by Sunday.
And I’ll be the first to say that the 2020 MLB plan isn’t great. But when stuff like this happens, let’s start by holding the players accountable when they exhibit no common sense and respect for their colleagues.
Fantasy baseball are seriously stressing over the randomness of a 60-game season, while at the same time, fantasy football owners are totally comfortable projecting the 15 games that will decide their success/failure.
I’m calling BS on this. If the Twins don’t want him to bunt, then they have to defend him straight up. Can’t shift over and then tell him he can’t bunt.
Really, really excited to announce that I will be providing regular content for
@Rotoworld_BB
throughout the 2018 season! And some of my weekly work will be dedicated to providing (what else?) trading tips! Check out my first article here:
Just when all the free agents are finding homes, I go the other way and hit the open market!
This is my last day with . It has been 7 great years, and I have no regrets. So many great experiences with terrific people. And, I'm sure I'll land on my feet!
The sensible solution is for MLB to push back start of the playoffs one week and use that extra week to play all of these postponed games. I know...TV etc. But the season has to come close to 60 games per team.
One of my biggest annual letdowns occurs when I get excited for Spring Training games, only to remember within the first hour what it’s like to watch Spring Training games. Opening Day can’t come soon enough!
Tiers are the worst thing that ever happened to fantasy draft advice. They don’t exist. But they make for an attractive crutch. Creating tiers is the first step towards inaccuracy. And it inhibits the ability to be imaginative on draft day.
After spending countless hours for several months trying to accurately rank players for the 2018 season, I’m watching Ty Blach outduel Clayton Kershaw. Why didn’t I just put the names in a hat....?
“To go public with it and call them out and start all of this, it’s hard to swallow.”

@RobSilver
Just get it. The whole plan from this point forward should be to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible. Especially since the variant is putting young, healthy people in the hospital. Don’t overthink this one!
@RotoGut
Vlad, you just pushed me over 10K followers! Thank you for the kind words. I’m not sure I deserve them, but I’ll keep grinding away and hopefully stay relevant.
To be successful in leagues with daily lineups, you need to spend a significant amount of time online every afternoon/evening, going through lineups. I love fantasy baseball, but not at the expense of my family and friendships.
Weekly lineups are archaic. Apparently this is an INDUSTRY standard. If you're too busy for daily lineups then leave it like it was a weekly lineup anyways while the rest of us who want daily access have the ability. Seems reasonable to me. Is this absurd?
#FantasyBaseball
Let’s be honest: managers are going to hate the 3-batter rule because it will make their jobs harder. The cookie-cutter decisions to go play the splits one batter at a time are so easy. I love the rule, as it rewards well-rounded RPs and managers who can see multiple moves ahead.
The
#LABR
Mixed Draft takes place at 8:00 ET tonight, and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m currently debating between Kershaw and Blackmon at No. 3 overall, unless
@SteveAGardner
leaves me an Altuve treat. Follow along here:
I have a confession: I love interleague games. I can’t figure out why most people don’t like them. 162 games per team....a little variety a few times per season is great.
Millions of people are suddenly out of work. Listening to billionaire owners complain that they are going to take a hit is going to get old really fast.
Recently watched Remember The Titans with my 9-year-old son. Had to pause the movie in the 1st minute because he didn’t understand why everyone was angry. The thought of a racial divide had never crossed his mind. There is hope. Change is hard, but can happen. Empathy is golden.
The longer I watch baseball, the most I detest pitchers batting. It ruins rallies, in an era where rallies are hard to come by. I really hope the universal DH is permanent next year.
Almost every major projection system values Aaron Judge as a top-3 pick, which is where he landed in '23 drafts. His February NFBC ADP is 11. Recency bias? Are managers overrating the injury risk? Are projections underrating the risk?
I’m benching all Titans, Bills, Pats and Broncos.
And please don’t waste your breath complaining about all of this. We all knew what we were getting into when we signed up this season. This is part of the 2020 strategy, like it or not.
Max Scherzer gets traded in July, right? The Nats are bad, he's in the last year of his contract, and as long as he's healthy in the summer he will really help a contender.
Really proud to be a part of this project each year. More than 800 players, ranked, projected and explained. And, it will be updated daily through Opening Day! This is definitely a link to bookmark!
Going to be unpopular: you shouldn't draft you kicker in the last round. In most 12-team leagues, the last 2-3 rounds are garbage anyways (assuming about 20 rounds). Might as well draft a K with about 3 rounds to go and get one you prefer. He's going to start 15 games for you.
I wonder to what degree Tony La Russa lost his locker room in the past 48 hours. Players like Lynn and Anderson had no hesitation in contradicting him.
In 2007, I read Fantasyland while laying by a pool in Cuba, and decided that one day I would be a participant in
@ToutWars
. In 1 hour, I’ll start my 10th year in the contest, and I’ve never lost sight of the special opportunity. You can follow along here:
Talk about a closer run! In the
#ToutWars
Draft and Hold league, 9 closers were selected within a span of 11 picks. Here is the order:
Munoz
Romano
Kimbrel
Sewald
Helsley
Scott
Phillips
Holmes
Alzolay
In your eyes, does any closer stand out as the best or worst in that group?
I feel like I spent half my childhood on a hockey bus. The
@HumboldtBroncos
tragedy is every hockey parent’s worst nightmare. Great young men, doing great things. No one deserves this, especially them. Hug your kids a little tighter tomorrow. Cherish each day with them.
Although I’m not looking to pick fights for a second straight week, I like the concept of tiers much, more more than the concept of mock drafts! There are so many better ways to spend your draft-prep time. Analyze ADP, look at contingency plans and you’ll be be ready.
In my mind, both of these things are true:
1. Anyone who wins their 2020 fantasy baseball leagues deserves full credit.
2. Anyone who struggles mightily in their 2020 fantasy baseball leagues should be cut plenty of slack.
Now, let's have some fun with this!
Why isn’t Craig Kimbrel already on the
@Cubs
? And please don’t talk to me about money, but that club has plenty of it. To me, that’s the one club that should contend and really needs him.
Hard to overstate how amazing this video is. If you have kids who play sports, take a couple minutes. It will either change you, or reinforce what you already know.
@Alden_Gonzalez
@SteveAGardner
I have no idea if this is a valid point....but is it possible that there were far fewer pitchers on the IL on Opening Day then in past seasons? Maybe many of those 56 pitchers would have landed on the IL during March in a regular Spring Training.
Although I rarely tell others about things I don't do, I feel compelled to announce that I have held my Tout Wars roster for more than 24 hours without sending out a trade offer! Full disclosure: I did come close on two occasions.....
I would like to find a fantasy football league in which at least 6-8 first rounders are QBs. QBs are by far the most important players in the NFL. They should be very important in fantasy leagues.
For me, Matt Harvey and Stephen Strasburg are forever linked. One shut it down, one didn’t. I know, sample sizes of one don’t teach us much, but I’ll always wonder where Harvey would be today if he threw fewer innings in 2015.
