@mpopv The different being has memories from the old one, which makes me think that death does not actually occur.

@zeta_globin If they're getting paid middle class-to-wealthy money for it then the job probably isn't unnecessary. Intangibles like reassuring investors/improving morale/motivating teams are all valuable and nontechnical but do actually make a difference.

@HotForMoot This is a running trope in anime, including a Mr. Fuji. I think it's typically a filler name they use as a joke.

@jonatanpallesen Need to include brain drain, those who have gotten out over the past several decades are typically significantly smarter than those they leave behind.

@alexrmoskowitz Scientists and engineers don't read Newton or Leibniz, when you deal in replicable facts then you can just use a textbook.

Here's the story about the vienna sausage factory - a classic tale of Rumsfeldian Unknown Unknowns
Something I think a lot about is how a salami company moved locations and suddenly all their product sucked. Until they realized a critical part of the curing was some old guy moving the salami between parts in the old factory taking forever. They didn’t actually know the recipe.

@zeta_globin To be fair they've been subject to a decade-plus of desperation by their cohort peers by them so it's not totally baseless.

@paleonormie People are moving to small weddings because headcount is the primary factor in total cost. This is good because it's better to get married for less than not to get married at all.

@Jiankui_He Keep saying what you have to say, in order to get your important work done. I pray that my grandchildren will be able to lift cars with one hand and see the full EM spectrum with their naked eyes.

@eshear @PrinceVogel @dumbreepicheep If I can defend 500 acres of farmland from my neighbors with a truck and a rifle (ie exert territorial control over it), does that reduce it to personal property? I think most people and most economists would say no.

@RichardHanania I almost got flattened this weekend while walking when some dip in a truck took a no-look, no-signal right turn on red. I think stopping this at any intersection inside a city core is reasonable.

@alicemazzy @zetalyrae I thought a significant part of it was they had wealthy matrilineality via war widows, often with multiple dead husbands. Wealthy women chose not to have a significant number of kids.

@picopaco18 @DrAllyLouks And because the train is less hazardous than icy roads, the stench is literally killing and injuring people in aggregate by creating car wrecks that otherwise would not have happened.

@eigenrobot I have started to wonder over the years why every major US city has a Holocaust museum, including one on the National Mall. My city doesn't even have a natural history museum here with a dino skeleton but we have a Holocaust museum.

Unbelievably hyped about the @ELuttwak book on how to build an intelligence service
He attended Mao's funeral and took Putin out to dinner. He's advised Ronald Reagan, the Pentagon, and a Kazakh dictator. He snorkels in French Polynesia and ranches in Bolivia. And he's the world's authority on coups. Luttwak, on Statecraft:.

@eigenrobot He's probably never going to do this, but given he was couped by Pelosi, Obama, et al, would be fun to have him pardon Donald/the J6 crew/anyone else. The man has little future in the Dem establishment, might as well flip all the birds.
