Another amusing one is when Cromwell decided to drive his carriage as fast as possible through Hyde Park. May have been a race if I remember correctly. It ended with him crashing & injuring himself… Doubt you’d see many men in their fifties doing this…

England would gladly accept the statue’s return. Beside understandable national grievances, he was truly a great warrior, loyal to his lord-king no matter the odds (even to King John); a man of the highest character set apart from the rest of knighthood.

Why is there a statue of William marshal in Wales? A Norman responsible for the subjegation of conquest of the Welsh and who ruled over stolen lands. We barely have statues to our own heroes of old, yet we erect statues to those subjugated us?

@danilusmaximus @nonregemesse The average Englishman still spoke Old English after 1066 - there was plenty of regional variation, but it persisted. Likewise, many Normans married Englishwomen & their children spoke both languages. Middle English is a mixture of Old English & Old French.
