Good for them! My best preceptors encouraged it, freely expressed the anticipated plan for the day. Knew of shelf exams + Step 2, promptly dismissed us instead of wasting their and our time. So often “anything else we can do?” turns into delayed dismissal with no valuable tasks.

THIS. Copious time to do whatever, even without a formal research year. I spent M3 clawing my way through rotations w/ ridiculous grading, an effort which took up so much attention and energy. Meanwhile, they get a P, Step 2 taken whenever, and PD’s favor their productive CV’s.

There is not an extremely high incidence of miscarriage following COVID-19 vaccinations, and in fact three studies have shown that miscarriage is no more likely in vaccinated women. (See JAMA, published 9/8/21; two more letters in NEJM from 9/8/21.) Also, different bug than flu.

No, not at all the idea. These are knowledge exams more than anything. Endurance is part of rotations and training, it should not be an aspect of preclinical/clinic knowledge exams. 2 hrs of Step 1 is experimental questions, not even scored. We're unpaid guinea pigs.
