Birding dream: achieved. 🥰😍🤩
Just the most *insane* views of Lammergeier at the Buseu Vulture Hide - I nearly started crying 😂 been my most wanted species for so long!!! 🤯
Say hello to wet Jeff. He was stuck in someone's house. He then decided to put himself *in* the water the householder left for him. He likes to stretch his wings out.
My gorgeous, gentle, funny, kind husband Stephen passed away this afternoon. He was so, so loved by so many, and my life was immeasurably richer and happier because of him. I can't even put into words how I feel
Just one Black Vulture (another new species for me!) came in for food, but it was slightly insane to have three Vulture species huddled together like that 🤯
PS there are always a lot of bearded dragons needing homes if you feel like that's something you can offer one! Atticus was rescued from a pet shop that couldn't sell him because he's missing his tail and a toe and no-one wanted him...
Me: ah, yes, an adult male noctule bat, or Nyctalus noctula. A fine example of evolution at its best, a master of the evening sky.
Also me: baby. baby boy. little man. sky potato.
I try to remain mostly scientific and serious when ringing birds, but I did make a bit of a peculiar noise when I got one of these in my hand - an absolute little snowball of a Long-tailed Tit 🥰 what a perfect creature!
I wish I didn't have to post this, but I thought you all should know.
I went to do the usual check on the bats this afternoon and Barlow had sadly died in his sleep... 😭
I hope he brought you as much joy and interest in bats through his antics as he did for me. 🦇💜
Decided to do a new photo of Barlow the common pipistrelle during weighing time. Same scales, same pot, same bat, but he's all grown up now 😭❤🦇

Say hello to Griff 👋 He is a noctule, a very big boy, and a certified Sky Puppy™️. Griff has a swollen wrist from an encounter with a cat, but will hopefully recover 🤞 - he's unbelievably calm and placid, was hard to get him off my warm gloves!
It's been a year today since my husband Stephen died.
Life can be so unbelievably cruel, but also so wonderfully beautiful, as he showed me. Hug your loved ones extra tight for me. 💕
Two bats I have in care at the moment, representing the size spectrum of British bats! Both adult males, common pipistrelle on the left, noctule on the right!

🦇
Just a tip: if you see a box like this with a hole towards the tree in woodland in the UK, this is a dormouse box, and the hole is *meant* to be facing the tree. It doesn't need you to turn it around and put bread on top (???!)
Very very happy to catch and ring this Magpie in the garden this morning, despite me now missing a chunk of my finger as a result 😁
#BirdRinging
Such a stunning bird and a first for me 😍
My heart has joined the Thousand, for my friend stopped running today.
Tre gave me 12 glorious years of his wonderful company, and it's been an honor and a privilege to be his caretaker during that time. Gonna miss you so much, buddy.
Probably my latest ever bat admittance, this Soprano Pipistrelle was found flying around someone's house, she then couldn't find it, and found it snoozing in her shoe 😴
I'm sorry to post this, but I think it's important that people know what their outdoor cats are up to whilst they're roaming the streets at night. He was still alive but in great pain, and wouldn't have healed, so he was put to sleep. RIP little pipistrelle. 😭
