I worked with the Legion on a training exercise once, and I can attest that they’re treated worse than the USMC. Primarily direct action, equipment that is definitely not new, less regard for their well-being, and shit pay. Great bunch of guys though, all super cool

This just reenforces the argument that frequency is the thing that will actually change peoples perceptions more than anything. 18 one way trips between West palm and Miami, meanwhile Amtrak’s River Runner between KC and STL barely has one service a day most of the time.

Not at all, but I’m pointing out that previous densities very clearly justified the extensive rail systems that did exist. It’s not like KC is working with nothing, so we should leverage those bones to flesh out a denser city with more extensive transit than a 2.2mi Streetcar

The avg collision between a cyclist & pedestrian results in a few bruises and maybe a fracture. The avg between a car & pedestrian is severe hospitalizations, & if we go at avg speed it’s death. Motorists are infinitely worse to peds, & it isn’t close

There is an existing abandoned rail corridor that runs on the SW edge of the complex. There is a major suburban city that is further SE of this area along the same rail corridor. Putting a transit system along this ROW means you’d connect that suburb to the city center & stadium

Sitting at this guard shack at the IRS, I’ve seen over 200+ Dirt Bikes & ATVs in various states of reckless driving on West Pennway. Blowing through Red lights, weaving in and out of cars. How is it that these things not only get organized to this extent, but go off unpunished?

Fixed rail transit has better scaling and induces higher and more functional density. It doesn’t need to be anywhere near as extensive as previous, but trams and other light rail options would do wonders in the transit mix of the area.

Depends on what factor you’re measuring the underrated-ness, but I’m always going to argue Kansas. Cheap COL, great climate for humans, great climate to grow food, incredibly interesting and deep history. Yes, it’s absolutely flat, boring, and empty, but there is beauty here too.

Kansas City is what I’m assuming this would be referencing, and our transit system has gotten noticeably worse since going fare free. The only fareless part of the system that does even reasonably well is the streetcar and some of the BRT-esque lines.
