Kinda awesome? She is the real deal. You can tell that by the fact Republicans were attacking her before she was sworn in and then thought a clip of her dancing in college was scandalous.
Yale Golf Course will be open to the public starting April 19. Rate for the general public is $125. "All golfers are permitted to register for tee times for the 2022 season. Tee times are mandatory; no walk-on play will be permitted."

Boston Globe headline: "LIV vs. PGA is a heavyweight battle for the soul of golf"
Really? I think the soul of golf is extremely far away from the PGA Tour and LIV.

Surprised to learn that the Yale Golf Course renovation project as recently as Dec. 6 was appearing before the New Haven City Plan Department for permitting. Red = existing golf features. Green = proposed golf features.

Your friendly reminder that as far as our research shows, every Macdonald and Raynor Biarritz originally only had green on the back plateau, no matter what you've been told. This is the Piping Rock version.

Masters fun fact. The pine needles under the pine trees on the course are imported. Those are not the needles that fall from those trees.

In 2021, Oxmoor Valley, part of the Alabama RTJ Golf Trail, redid its Valley course changing its 13th hole to this. No other holes modified. Love to know the thinking behind this decision.

Golf Digest recently had a list of cool Punchbowl greens in the U.S. One of my favorites is second at 9-hole Bellows Falls (Vt.) CC. Davy Brown, winner of the 1886 Open Championship, designed the course in 1923. What's yours?

I made 2 substantial finds at Blue Mound G &CC today. 2, Charles Banks was hired in '27 to finish Raynor's plans. 1, Banks's hand drawings for all 18 holes some of which have 2 versions. Current 5th hole shown.

First taste of restored Wampanoag CC, West Hartford, CT yesterday. Hundreds of trees removed, lots of bunkers brought back, greens expanded. A must-play if in the area. A blast even though it was 37 with a light rain. Kudos

and super John Ruzsbatzky,
Perfect examples of how much Augusta has been altered despite what Nantz will tell you. The fantastic boomerang (now) 9th green. The original 10th next to the present fairway bunker. People in background are near the present 10th. Must have been a fun course.

Spent an unseasonably warm day at Tamarack Country Club, Charles Banks 1929, being restored by

. Final tree removal opened up long views. The huge scale of the bunkers and green complexes really comes out.

Oh, I don't know, maybe background checks, and licenses, a national database so a person banned form owning a gun in one state can't purchase one in another, not allowing convicted violent offenders and those with documented mental health issues to own firearms?
Just finished up at Yale. Overall a bit ragged but course had over an inch of rain 2 days ago, drains poorly. 10 13 greens closed to let slit seed take, open next week. Greens cored, verticut, fairways, tees cored. Water dangerously low.

Spoke with Yale AD Peter Palacios. Yale working on masterplan that will include course, clubhouse possibly maintenance area. Restoration/renovation will take 22-24 months. Would not confirm/deny he has talked with architects.

I was incorrectly led to believe
@KnollwoodCClub
had little left in the way of Raynor/Banks. How about a Punchnowl with a Biarritz-like swale? Also, remnants of Tillinghast, Van Etten.

has the layout in wonderful condition. Play it if you can.

This is a perfect example of how the modern club members understand golf architecture. You do not want long views across the course. A perfectly straight line of trees is a great way to eradicate that eyesore and frame the hole.

Not a Macdonald-Raynor-Banks Short Hole. This is Lawrence Van Etten's work at Knollwood CC, circa 1925, 110 yards. Hole is no longer there. Location is now 18th fairway.

Fellow Raynor-Banks researcher Bret Lawrence made an interesting discovery. This famous photo from 12-1932 Golf Illustrated is not Banks's Castle Harbour (now Tuckers' Point) as it reads in the caption but C.B. Macdonald's Mid Ocean. The layouts abut.

Seth Raynor died on this date, 1926, aged 51. He was in West Palm Beach, Fla. most likely to take a look at Palm Beach Winter Club before it opened and site of proposed Craigin Park development that never came about.

Love the uneven, chunky, blotchy rough at Royal Melbourne. Adds that bit of luck and unpredictability. There have been, and will be, American superintendents fired for having supposedly inconsistent rough. 🙄🙄
And that’s the fault of technology? I put that square on the staid shoulders of architecture. Innovate. Quit thinking the best ideas in golf course architecture came from 100 years ago.
Appears somebody
@USGA
knows a bit of architecture history and has a sense of humor. (Christian) Raynor and (Landon) Banks paired together for the Mid-Am. Playing Blue Mound today, 1926 Raynor design touched up by Banks.

For all the Seth Raynor/Charles Banks fans out there who are looking to play their designs in 2020, I suggest you tee it up at Rock Spring GC, the municipal course in West Orange, N.J. This could be the last year it is 18 holes.

Fifth 9-holer in two days. First hole at the the always fantastic Hooper Golf Club, Walpole, N.H. Didn't play, just took a walk around. One of Stiles-Van Kleek's best works. Very much worth the visit.

Played Lake Wales (Fla.) Country Club yesterday. I fun golf course. About all that is left of Raynor is some original hole corridors and maybe the Eden green. For $39, worth a story, though. The owners still think it is a Donald Ross design.
