As announced in today’s letter from our publisher
@Brendon_Thomas
, I am humbled and honored to take on the role of Editor at The Golfer’s Journal. Watching what TGJ has become over the past seven years has been pure joy, with all thanks to our members who enable everything we do.
Caddying was the best job I ever had—not for what it taught me about golf, but what it taught me about people. It formed my world view: Those who get it. And those who don’t. I still see the world this way. And Kuch has stamped himself as the latter.
Home from a week in

with the

crew, or simply

as they would become known around the golfing west of the country. A few impressions from the week they generously invited me to join them for the filming of

Coaching my daughter’s 2nd/3rd grade hoops team. Refs are high schoolers. Each team pays them $20 before the game for their services and every time I hand over the cash I can’t keep from saying “Keep it fair, keep it fair.” No smile just confusion.
Rules changes weren't bothering me until this official change to "tied" from "all square" and "halved" has been highlighted this week
@DellMatchPlay
It's an abomination. An assault on this game's legacy and diction. I cannot abide it.

Opening after the Masters. Five stars. Two thumbs up. 10/10. They nailed it here—total fun park; you won’t want to leave. And a muni that might pay its city a dividend? This place could change things. Let’s hope…
2019 I’m playing in Chicago and my caddie is 22ish, looping his way though art grad school. I wrote about him in a book, and as a thanks he just sent me this. Despite reports to the contrary, people are awesome. Thank you, Jackson Wrede. Follow him on Instagram.
Pretty much love these old put your ball in the queue things for everything they represent about how we used to play golf: Show up. Get a game.
#thegoodolddays
1. Who cares? I do.
2. Who else cares? Nobody.
#poundsand
3. Tip it? Yes.
4. Course still short. But greens tiny and slanted like rooftops.
3. How many breakfast balls? 1
4. Score doesn’t count then. You are joyless and your soul is void.

Place is so pure right now that one could be moved to unreasonable emotion. Perhaps a tear, knowing I’ll never putt better greens. Bravo
@GreenGCA
Cannot wait til
@PGAChampionship
I clearly remember when
@travismhill
and
@Brendon_Thomas
reached out about a magazine that would be print only with minimal advertising and long form writing about golf stuff no one else was writing about. Sounded crazy and wonderful, and I’m so very grateful they came asking.
Some
@GolfersJournal
News: So excited to have
@coynewriter
join the
@GolfersJournal
team as our full-time Senior Editor.
Tom has been contributing since the very first issue and can't wait to see where he,
@travismhill
, and the rest of the team take this thing!
Look like a good place for a golf course? We think so. Sandy hills, wandering water, deep ravines. And land with a long family history.
@LandscapesUnLLC
and Craig&Coyne Design are partnering to do something special here. Stay tuned for the when, where, and how.
On the “things a dad will do for his daughter” chart, buying the last pair of swim trunks sized euro medium so I could join her in the hotel pool ranks top 10 for me.
There will be no accompanying photography.
Never before have I had so much fun losing so many balls. (The junk at
@prairiedunescc
is quick death, and it’s everywhere.) And Mr. Murray helped me look for every one of them.
Domegal has had so much to offer golfers for so long, but the new
@stpatrickslinks
@Rosapenna1893
may be the jewel that tips Ireland’s most yonder county over into a mandatory destination versus an adventurous alternative. A course you don’t want to finish. Go now.

The old golf tram at Manufacturers. Built by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, the same company that built the Comet at Hershey Park. Takes players from the lower 18th (par 4) to the upper green (par 5) and back to the clubhouse.
As my research for A Course Called America rolls on, I think I’m going to write a chapter consisting entirely of starter first tee wisdoms. Some classics:
“You’ve got to keep it below the hole here.”
“Long is dead.”
“Course plays longer than yardage on card.”

I remember reading Paper Tiger and thinking

was 64 percent crazy, 36 percent genius.
He then took us along with him to Ireland ... then on the journey of a lifetime around Scotland ... and now, the U.S.
Congrats to my pal on his latest book. It’s a must-read.
Excited to share this new project where Gil Hanse, Lee Wybranski and me go deep on our hometown golf scene. Merion, Aronimink, Philly Cricket…plus a lot of surprises. Check it out here and on YouTube. Produced by

This is why we can’t have nice things, Philadelphia.

trying to GIVE the city a vast public playing ground and educational centerpiece on a currently flooded, empty parcel. Yet we have to fight it. Can’t we just say thank you?
OMG the guy next to me on
@AmericanAir
thought the mesh pocket on back of the seat in front of him was an unopened foot rest. He just put his two feet through it and ripped it right the hell off. Now trying to repair. Awkward.
Superlative superlatives for today’s three-rounder. Lot of variety on this long island. From a beefy state course to the please-let-me-stay Maidstone to a nine hole night cap at Pox, today was a golf day. And a damn good one

Airport in the dark hours. 8.30pm departure pushed to 3.45am. Several stages of flight delay gone by: The shock. The outrage. The resentment. Then the surrender, and the bond forged amid the stranded. I’d go to battle with any of these carpet sleeping brethren.
