- asking them for data to link the IDs on their BeachBouy system to the EA Permit ID, allowing us to correlate the annual numbers. They should reply in 20 working days. On last day, have requested 40 more - 60 days = 3 months. What are they hiding?

Failed 20% of environmental targets. Still not reducing spills at 150 of 1000's that are dumping sewage (fast track accelerated == not done). Paying huge dividends, yet borrowing £500m. £44m tax on £480m = 9.2% = most companies pay 25%! WTF is this 💩

It's easy to mock this plan. The 4bn more litres of water we apparently need by 2050, is >75% covered by the leaks in the system that exist today.
Use of bathing water standards as a proxy for quality of all waterways is pretty lax.

Absolutely.. as we previously mentioned, Thames Water finances seem to be loaded with derivatives pointing the wrong way.
With debt coming due, huge derivatives liabilities, worsening debt status, and prosecution likely, Thames is in big trouble.

seems to be short inflation, via various swaps... its all in their annual reports.
Need a CFA to read these things, but it looks pretty bad, just from derivs, never mind debt..

The s22 exemption does not apply here. The public interest in release is total. Every single household, river, beach and sea has been affected by this sewage crisis.
If government knew consequences for 20 years, it's just being quiet to save face, and keep their rich mates rich.

It is actually not quite so clear cut. Data on sewage overflows is severely lacking for Scotland, so we just don't know, but there are indications the problem is pretty bad there too.
The 90% rainwater claim is unfortunately a bit of water company misdirection.

For UK water companies "total leakage for all water companies was 2,336 megalitres per day" - that's 2336x1000x365 = 852,640,000m3/year... an average household uses 164m3/year. So they leak equiv of 5.1m households water, which is 18% of the UK.
Maybe that's why bills are high.

Would this generate £130m/day in fines if applied to England? Maybe more?
"Denmark introduced a water supply tax in 1994 to encourage water companies to reduce leakage. If more than 10% of total water supplied is lost to leakage, water utilities are charged €1 for every cubic metre lost beyond the 10% threshold."

Scarborough North Beach polluted 2.2x a week, on average. This ignores many other sewage outfall that are in the area, but are judged to be irrelevant. It's actually more than twice as many incidents as Scarborough South, including via Scalby Beck.

Here are the beaches where the monitoring works less than 90% of the time. Look! - Loads don't work at all.

In 2021 anglian water dumped sewage for more than 194,000 hours into water courses in the East of England, the worst being in Daventry, where there were 942 incidents in 1 year.

According to our analysis of Environment Agency data - there were 73 sewage dumps, by Thames Water, into the Wandle in 2020, for a total of 315 hours.
(Currently, only top 20 worst rivers show on the site - we're working on it..)
