The water in our reservoirs rarely gets above 11°C, even on the hottest of summer days. That's cold enough to make you panic. Cold enough to make your arms and legs numb which means you can't swim. It can lead to hypothermia, which can cause heart failure and death.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends and colleagues of those involved following the tragic incident at Wessex Water’s Bristol water recycling centre in Avonmouth today (3 December 2020).
⚠️ Our reservoirs are full of DEADLY dangers!⚠️ Reservoirs can be incredibly deep and often have sudden drops which are impossible to see. This combined with the freezing cold temperatures – even on a hot day - creates a very dangerous environment for open water swimming!❄️
Our reservoirs are often in beautiful but isolated places and there aren't any lifeguards on duty. So no matter how quickly you raise the alarm, by the time help arrives, it could be too late. Please keep safe and keep out of reservoirs.
