lowkey I think the death of cable has meant kids aren’t just watching whatever movie is on anymore. they’re picking exactly what to consume at all times instead of just whatever is on AMC on a sunday.
I make a Matrix reference in one of my lectures and it's simply now a fact of life that not one single student in any of my classes will ever have seen the Matrix. Zero, every time, no exceptions. Obviously I'm old and washed but damn.

no one who would want something like this would actually leave their house to go to it tho.
Instead of nightclubs I want a 24hr library with hot chocolate stations, a dessert bar, coffee machine, big comfy chairs and beanbags, blankets, dogs welcome, just people who want to spend the evening reading alone, together, peaceful, a cosy fire, plants, an indoor waterfall.

@dumplingmenace my mom did the same thing 💀. she was like ‘oh good for her, she must be what, 42 by now?’ turns out she’s a few days younger than my brother.

I think we need to find a different word than ‘privilege’ to describe some of these things. like most of the time the reasons just boil down to ‘I prioritize other things’.
Y'all aren't gonna like me, but reading is a privilege. You need free time, the education, the ability, access to books, etc. But we should be helping each other access books however we can and sharing info and stories in a number of mediums.

@Virginia_Brasch wait she’s literally 47 that’d have to be a double teen mom situation for her to be a grandma of kids this old.

@JayElHarris literally the woman who ‘started’ them has come out against them bc of what they’ve become. she was just excited to have made it far enough along to know the sex.

…the whole point of school is to educate. it’s not any more inaccessible or alienating than geometry or french.
@youdoingtoomuch @NastiaTrixie I’m a former English major, and I strongly disagree. Shakespeare is inaccessible and alienating to the vast majority of children and, frankly, to many adults. Lit teachers have a romantic attachment to it that’s deeply detrimental to the learning of contemporary students.

more working class gals in historical romance!!! I can only take so much feminism from someone with a house full of servants!!.
Would die for a historical romance series featuring scheming ladies maids who are running double crosses and heists on their ladies, and falling for each other and maybe some stable men.

she’s not the devil incarnate but she is an airhead (kate and anthony weren’t fooling around, and kate actively discouraged the match and everyone including anthony told edwina that he didn’t love her).
she found out her sister and fiancé were fooling around behind her back on her wedding day but apparently that’s no valid reason to get angry so now she’s the devil incarnate to a group of people out there

it’s normal to be upset that someone put their hands on your kid, and I’m not saying there shouldn’t be consequences for him, but this is a wild way to talk to someone who is at most 14.
Coming. She’s very thin, and she FLEW forward several feet. I am still shaking with rage. I have never been so ok with the idea of going to jail before. He tried snapchatting her that he was sorry. I replied “No buddy you don’t know what it’s like to be sorry yet but you’re 2/.

I don’t say this to scare anyone but for context, altadena is almost exactly as far away from the palisades as potrero is from chula vista. it took 24hrs in 07 for that fire to burn that 32 miles. there’s no such thing as ‘far away’ with winds like this.
These two fires are pretty far apart from each other. However, they are saying that the winds will continue to get stronger throughout the night & it doesn't appear that they are able to control either fire at all. Unclear what is going to happen.

@ItsNeeksYeah they’re older but meg cabot’s YA series all deal with sex in a v age-appropriate way imo! idk if she likes supernatural stuff, but her mediator series has a romance that I imprinted on as a teen.

openly enjoying sex is more ‘liberating’ than pretending it’s something women are simply subjected to. by your argument a woman could never sing about sex.
sorry to be the friend that’s too woke but this shit is so degrading to women and I hate that this is the box female artists are largely confined to.

@OgLakyn that was my question! I think it’s cool if they’re building her an archive that she can pull from for years to come, but it’s not clear whether that’s the intention behind the buying.

having children is neither extraordinary nor groundbreaking.
I’m not impressed by most childless people who are 35 FWIW. Almost none of them are doing anything extraordinary or groundbreaking in lieu of having children. Especially the women. Probably, the best thing you’re going to do in your life as a woman requires the use of your.

what books are y’all reading cause I don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion!!.
Unpopular opinion but all these “romance” books that have the MMC toying with the woman's birth control - throwing them away without asking, hampering them, getting her pregnant deliberately so she can't leave - they give me a serious ick. Will never get the “romance” part here.

@Charlotte_Stein like there is a 19yo and his dad onboard which is a massive bummer and I do hope their deaths were quick and painless. but ‘maybe don’t spend $250k to dive to a shipwreck in a tin can operated by unqualified people’ is a completely valid point to make.

will there be times when you need to prioritize one relationship over another? for sure! but the idea that your friendships are not also serious, long-term relationships is why a lot of y’all don’t have any real friends.
If you’re committed to the single life, that’s awesome and I genuinely love that for you, but you have to be willing to accept that your friends might eventually prioritize their serious, long-term partner whom they’re building a life and possibly a family with, over you.

my grandma can stand and walk off a plane but cannot trek the 1.5 miles thru DIA to get to her connection. that’s not uncommon! it can also be v dangerous for someone with mobility issues to fall.
Typical @SouthwestAir flight to Florida! I counted 30 pre-boards needing wheelchair assistance. When we get off the plane 28 of them walk off! @FAANews @FlyTPA @FoxNews @cnnbrk @MarkWilsonTV

@clhubes if lorelai actually wanted to make sure rory could get into harvard she should’ve pushed her into extracurriculars and other resume boosters when she was a freshman, 2yrs of a fancy prep school would likely actively harm her chances! made no sense.

@seaweedanxiety @the_ason they can’t find that undocumented immigrants aren’t subject to U.S. jurisdiction. no laws, including immigration laws, could be enforced against them if that were the case. it would completely upend american jurisprudence, like to the point of chaos.

@RdotSpoon it really doesn’t make sense to me bc don’t romance readers on average read way more books per year than other genre readers? like what is the end goal here.

this whole thread is discredited by thinking this woman weighs ‘92lbs soaking wet’ tbh.
She also appears to be approximately 92 pounds soaking wet. She will be able to deliver a number of fast kicks to the head that most men will shake off as they close if they don't just keep their hands up as they charge.

the thing is it is likely perfectly safe for a bunch of 10-12yos to go play baseball in a park/a lot. it’s adults who have convinced themselves it’s not and passed that anxiety on to kids.
Kids/teens want more friendship and less sx in TV/film bc they're lonely. We have destroyed their third places. As one 10yo said in the study: "The Sand Lot is a baseball movie i like. i wish i could go outside and play like [they] did at the time. today its not safe." [sic].

the man is certifiably evil and also hates republicans more than maybe anyone alive.
his name is Gavin Christopher Newsom and he is the governor of California. he has been telegraphing a run for president for like 20 years and is ready to do it in 2028. he also probably drinks the blood of infants for daily sustenance.

@JayElHarris it’s the framing of ‘insisted’ that gets me. like your parents came along while you did a dry run of a commute that’s new to you? sure, I like having company too. but insisting on practicing the commute of a 27yo (on the seattle metro!) is weird.

@JayElHarris like part of the point is you love them and they love you and you’ve built this relationship, unless this is like a close friend you’ve always had feelings for (in which case why did you get married lol?) idk how you’d be able to quantify someone being ‘better’.

depends! sometimes it’s that your lights aren’t on, sometimes you forgot to turn your brights down, other times it’s that there’s a cop or a hazard up ahead on the road.
I’m curious how many ppl know what I’m trying to tell them when I do this. What does it mean when someone driving the opposite way on the same road flashes their brights at you?.

this tweet is driving me insane lol. sex is unimportant to *some* people. it’s v important to others. sexual incompatibility is a huge cause of tension in romantic relationships.
Sex is so unimportant in the grand scheme of love and life. I think we all just want someone who adores us, laughs at our jokes, wants to cuddle with us even when it’s hot outside and the AC isn’t working. Someone who doesn’t mind being silly with you. Someone who makes you free.

@Charlotte_Stein it happens in passing! like we don’t ‘see’ the MMC do it, he mentions it as the reason he’s late to something bc he had to shower and change (if I’m remembering right). his refusal to tell her is a symptom of the larger issue, but the conflict is not ‘he shit himself’.

no actually you shouldn’t be demanding people to do free work.
Me: really enjoyed the call. Please see attached financial modeling test. Gen Z applicant: this looks like a lot of work. Without knowing where I stand in the process, I’m not comfortable spending 90 minutes in Excel. Me:…well…I can tell you where you stand now.

I actually think it’s really fucked up to say that infant and toddler years are the ‘best’ of your kids’ lives!.
Having my own babies now it’s WILD to me that moms drop their kids off at daycare. I worked at one in college, in the infant room and 3’s. Families literally paying random people to enjoy the best years of their kids life. How did this become normalized!?.
