Roughly 85% of thrust from modern high bypass turbofans is “cold” thrust. The fuel sippers- the P&W GTF and leap series may be even higher, I honestly don’t know. Basically, the cores main job is to keep the big fan turning, provide electrics and bleeds.

Yeah you’d need a Rad alt, which gives height above the ground. A barometric altimeter will give you height above sea level. If you’re gonna wing it and go yolo, I’d want to know the highest terrain in the area and build a “floor” above that.
