I am excited to see my dissertation research featured in MIT News! In short, supply chains have become a new determinant of political coalitions in the US. This has major implications on trade, investment, and international cooperation in years to come.
PhD student Hao Zhang has found that firms linked by supply chains — including those that cross borders — also share political goals. “Interests are blurred now,” he says, “because industries are interconnected by production relationships.”
