Sad about the passing of a legend, Bob Lucas. My indirect encounters: (1) 1st-year macro, Pat Kehoe tells us to spend weekend with Lucas paper and a 6-pack of beers; (2) going on the market, Richard Rogerson is unhappy with my JMP intro and pulls out Lucas (1988) for contrast. 🥲

The Brazilian government requires large firms to hire workers with disabilities. Before writing a paper about this quota for disabled workers, I was exposed to it in several circumstances in my life. I want to take you on a journey on how I transformed these events into a paper

Come work with @PorzioTommaso , myself and other professors in the field of economics, including all areas but with a focus on macroeconomics, broadly defined. We love mentoring young talent and investing in our RAs' skills. And it shows in our world-class PhD program placements!

@KhoaVuUmn While we’re at it, why don’t we also abandon the assumption of a representative agent in all economic models?! I hereby advocate for a new generation of “Different-Agent Models”… they might even be useful for monetary-policy analyses (DANK)! 😂

Really happy to see the Academy recognize @PikaGoldin 's work on women's relative pay and compensating differentials. It's been a huge inspiration for our work on this topic:

I should add that I was lucky enough to have taken a mini-course co-taught by Bob Lucas, @ben_moll , and Xavier Gabaix at NYU in the summer of 2011... also in attendance were @jlperla and @ChrisTonetti , I believe! 🤓

As we announced in Cartagena last year, and due to our perception that demand to present papers at the SED meetings has been increasing, we decided to increase the supply (we considered increasing prices ....). Thus, the first WInter Meetings of the SED will take place... 🥁 1/3

@SorryToBeKurt I thought we should judge models based on their predictions, not their assumptions (a point made by Friedman — I think there was an analogy to Minnesota Fats, the professional pool player)? 🤔😉

Future work should study heterogeneous treatment effects as well as control for school fixed effects, subject fixed effects, and time-of-day fixed effects. I am actively looking for predocs, postdocs, and other researchers in the field to help. NBER SI workshop details to follow.

So far, so good. Here is where our contribution starts. We show that workplace attributes tend to be better for women, especially at large employers. Like, more part-time work and parental leave generosity, and fewer workplace hazards. 6/19

1/3: We've posted an update to "Minimum Wages, Efficiency and Welfare". Main result: In a model that matches a wide set of empirics on labor markets, tiny welfare gains exist via the *efficiency* channel of addressing monopsony power in labor markets.
