In the 1950s an American man could fight off meth heads and serve taquitos to stoned teenagers at 3 am without FOREIGN INFILTRATORS getting in the way. Remember what they took from you.
Speaking of DEI and racial preferences: the reason many convenience stores are Indian owned in USA is because they as POC get small biz loans from the GOVERNMENT (about $1 million same Trump got to start his biz) that whites are simply excluded from under current system. Havenāt.

@vanillaopinions Yup there was a fiscal conservative / liberal "we should spend the money on social programs instead" alliance that hated the space program, but they were thwarted by a bipartisan pro-space program consensus in Washington.

Maturity is realizing that the correct response to 9/11 was to require locks on all airplane cockpit doors, shoot a cruise missile at an empty tent and hit a camel, and call it a day. Literally everything else the US did in response to 9/11 just made life worse for Americans.
Yesterday was Israelās 9/11. And remember, after 9/11, nobody told the United States not to retaliate, nobody called for a āceasefireā or a āde-escalation,ā nobody āboth-sidedā what had happened that horrible day.

The meme that America is an impoverished hellscape with a handful of billionaires is so wrong. America is a mass affluent society with weirdly bad public services.
Car payments have hit record highs:. Nearly 15% of drivers who financed a new vehicle toward the end of 2022 are paying $1,000+ a month. (via edmunds).

The pro-shoplifting takes on here are so strident because it's one of the few crimes that the Brooklyn trust fund set is willing to commit on their own to distinguish themselves from their uncool parents.

@_Reaganite_ Brexit was dumb but it's become a huge cope for the UK's terrible policies in a bunch of other areas, most importantly housing. The UK could kick off a huge economic boom right now by relaxing its strict planning laws.

@gonglei89 There aren't that many Teamsters. The amount the Teamsters received was equivalent to $100,000 per member. It was an enormous sum and they just said "ok thanks" and pivoted to worrying about cultural issues.

When Obama proposed resettling 10,000 Syrian refugees in the US it was one of most unpopular proposals in the history of opinion polling and set off a furious political backlash that led to the election of Trump.
Why hasnāt there been more push by activists to take in Gazan refugees in the West? Would save thousands of lives. Israel would presumably sign a treaty to guarantee they be allowed back if we evacuated them for a year. As this would dramatically reduce Hamasā odds of victory.

The taco bowl tweet is actually an excellent comparison. It was a banger that successfully defused a lot of concerns that Trump was too racist against Hispanics. Trump gets away with racist shit that would damage other Republicans precisely because he does it in a hilarious way.

@SwannMarcus89 Self-immolation isn't culturally resonant in the US the way it is in predominantly Hindu and Buddhist countries. No one in the US is sitting at home saying "wow I was skeptical of the pro-Palestine movement before but I'm so honored by the sacrifice I'm on board.".

Everyone dunking on this by pointing out that Calgary and Ottawa transit sucks are proving Yglesiasās point. These cities *do not* have world class infrastructure and yet still manage to get wildly higher ridership than any comparable American city.
Everyoneās instinct is to suggest an Asian or European city with awesome urbanism but my vote is Calgary and Ottawa both of which have higher transit mode than any non-NYC American city.

@SwannMarcus89 The US tech industry deciding to concentrate itself in the center of the Zero Population Growth movement was an enormous tragedy. The average mayor of a Midwestern city will deliver hookers, guns, bricks of cocaine to any tech company that wants to move there.

San Francisco is richer and nicer than every other 500k+ population city in the United States, but it chooses to locate its Skid Row directly in the central tourist district. Worse stuff goes on in Philadelphia and Dallas, but those cities try to clean things up for tourists.
If San Francisco is a hellhole, why are its housing prices still astronomical?. Yes, draconian housing regulation is key. But you couldnāt make downtown Detroit prices sky-high by strangling construction.

I think "the left" is composed of journalists and progressive nonprofit workers whose wages really haven't increased in nominal terms in recent years and don't realize that their experience is kind of atypical.
The views of progressive inflation doves turned out to he completely, 100% accurate, they were spectacularly vindicated - but now the left is turning on the idea because theyād rather have ragebait retweets than working-class prosperity.

The Twitter Israel is debate frustrating because the anti-Israel side is influenced by ludicrous Arab nationalist ideas that Israel is weak and about to pack up and fly back to Poland and the pro-Israel side is convinced its a gay-friendly agricultural commune.
The reason so many defenses of Israel lean into the philosophical, ideological, and hypothetical is because there's no actual way to defend a liberal democracy denying basic civil rights to 33% of its population based on ethnicity indefinitely.

This is the big thing that pro-immigration centrists get wrong. No one actually believes "I support LEGAL immigration, just not illegal immigration.". Asylum seekers are uniquely unpopular precisely because they do have a legal status!.

Nepotism and GOP having a weak female bench meant that Liz Cheney was literally going to be running the country in a few years if she hadnāt broken with Trump. Itās genuinely rare for someone at such a high level to torch their entire career to stand up for a principle.

One of the weirdest aspects of Twitter is how rich it is. The random asseater420 reply guy account is pulling like $200k a year. Your deranged timeline is compromised of America's cultural and economic elite class.
I'm really fascinated by this genre of tweets where people complain about the prices of delivery apps because given the prices, you have to be decently well off to order from them, no? I'm also struck by how often people use the apps.

Kinda funny that everyone thinks the key to popularity is creating lots of manufacturing jobs and the presidents who did that were *checks notes* Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden.
I made a very quick graph of change in manufacturing employment by presidency. While W. Bush wasnāt the direct cause of deindustrialisation, 56.3% of the total decline in manufacturing jobs from their peak occurred during his tenure.

Biden moving the country away from a ridiculous "One Weird Trick" immigration policy that no voters ever agreed to and moving us towards a less chaotic asylum system is good, and Democrats should loudly celebrate this policy change!.
