The reason the âHaitians are eating petsâ story is so juicy is that many Americans hate immigrants and hate how they move in and shift the demographics of communities, but need a more rational reason to hate them than âI just want my town to be white.â.This story gives it to them.

He references LGBTQ books in libraries in the speech, this is not about Gaza. They're just socially conservative people who hate people like you and me.
Surreal. Democrats are losing the Muslim vote to the Muslim-ban guy all so they could keep sending weapons to a country flagrantly ignoring our gentle requests to please slow down on the starving and slaughtering

TNCâs 9/11 stuff never really bothered me because it was so stupid, it wasnât worth engaging in, but if he thinks New York is irredeemable because we had slavery until 200 years earlier, then why are Arabs, who raided black African villages and took slaves back to the Middle East.
Ta-Nahesi Coates writing on 9/11: ''Everyone knew someone who knew someone who was missing. But looking out upon the ruins of America, my heart was cold. I would never consider any American citizen pure. I kept thinking about how southern Manhattan had always been Ground Zero

Biden ended a war and he never recovered politically from it.
@HeerJeet Seems like the actual takeaway here is that the American public has been generally quite anti-war since 2008 but elites largely refuse to accept it

The entire theory of neoliberalism was âif you push people even a little bit, they will snap back in dangerous ways so you have to approach change like you would approach a rattlesnakeâ and itâs been vindicated.

Dems literally bailed out their pensions and made it easier to unionize and strike.
Dems have taken the same stance with unions they have with voters of color: âIâm not gonna offer you much, but the other guy wants to destroy you, so you better fall in line.â. I mean, really thatâs their tactic with almost every voting bloc, these days.

I mean it won again, this time the popular vote, and a lot of people feel the resistance just made it worse. This is much like 2005 with Bush. We all see the train barrelling down the track and we know the wreck has to happen for people to get it. So just let it happen.
The vibes recently just feel like everyone has accepted Trump. The media doesnât want to challenge him, social media is going to all be owned by suck ups, the Democrats arenât putting up a fight like they did in 2017. It just feels like society has fully accepted Trumpism.

Iâve told this story before, but both in 2023 and 2024 I went on cruises where I stayed in a suite with access to a private lounge. People in those lounges, who paid five figures to be there, were bragging about their boats, ranches in Montana and future cruises and also.
I sat in a focus group of college + voters in a battleground state earlier this year where in the warm up questions, 7 of 10 summer plans included travel overseas - and all 7 later in the exercise said cost of living was causing huge cutbacks in their lives.

Yeah, nothing the Democratic Party has done to appeal to demographics they were told would come to them if they moved left - labor, Latinos, young voters - has worked. If Harris loses, weâre returning to Clintonism.
Biden-era Democrats have been more supportive than ever of blue collar unions qua unions but gotten less support than ever from blue collar union members. Probably better to just be more moderate on cultural issues AND environmental stuff AND labor.

Look Iâm going to poke the bear again here. The reason this happened was Bernie Sanders. Most of these groups supported him and expected him to win and were so infuriated by his losses that they dedicate themselves to undermining the Democratic Party in some bizarre act of.
Wild shift from the Obama-era 'veal pen' (where progressive groups amplified Dem messaging) to today's dynamic. The infrastructure still exists, but instead of coordinating w/ party leadership, the Groups now primarily succeed at providing backlash & critiques. @mattyglesias
