I benefitted greatly from "gifted" education when I was younger. I am now deeply critical of the whole concept, and think all students would benefit from the kind of autonomy and individualized attention I received, not just the kids perceived as having the highest ROI.

A friend who is a resident on an eating disorder treatment unit described forced bedrest, earning the “privilege” to take a 5 min shower/outside time, working up to a 30 min walk, no TV/music with food, no salt/pepper. Forced to stay in bed all day + eat. What are we doing?

@theashleyray many many years ago I worked with a guy at McDonald's, a real sweetheart, who had PTSD from childhood sexual abuse and he enjoyed the job because it kept his mind too busy to think about it. worth keeping in mind that other people love jobs we might hate.
