So firstly I had to look up rental prices of 3 bed terraced houses in Salford. It appears the average lower end 3 bed terrace private rented house approx £1,500 per month.

This calc was based on Chesney working 25 hours a week in the Kebab Shop and Gemma 20 hours a week in the pub. If they earn more (30 - 40 hours a week) their UC goes down, if they work less UC goes up. The combined income and UC ends up around the same approx £5,000 pcm. /9

So what benefits would Chesney and Gemma be entitled to with 5 children? (exempt from two child rule due to multiple births of the quads). I ran this calc several times on Benefits Calculator but eventually landed on £2,905 pcm of which £405 is child benefit.

I settled on Gemma working 20 hours a week and Chesney 25 hours in order to give them time to juggle the child care and school runs between them. Again if they were both working 35 hours a week, then they would need to pay for some child care.

I excluded Bernie from the budget and UC calc, as if she does live there not all of her income would be available to Gemma and Chesney. In an alternative UC calc if Bernie is included as a non dependent adult also on a low income, their UC would be £100 pcm lower. /12

and lastly (I think) I've based their house on being a 3 bed with some flexibility. They need at least 2 bedrooms for the five kids and one bedroom for themselves. Possibly an attic loft play room for Joseph (or Bernie).

Well £100 pcm should be £60 for 3 x mobile phones (Gemma, Chesney and Joseph) and some pocket money £40 for Joseph. Altho sm1 else mentioned they might get DLA benefit as well for Aled due to him being deaf. But the fictional couple may or may not have applied for DLA.

When Gail's Dad died (Friday 5 Feb 2021), number 8 Coronation Street was about to be auctioned due to the sink hole. Gail returned on Monday, 8 Feb, saying she had bought it and saved the Platt family as her Dad's estate had been sorted (over the weekend 😅).
