But negotiations with Russia only gives them time to re-arm and break future agreements to continue their expansion.
Can't see any long term benefit to making agreements with Russia given their track record of breaking agreements.
After 21years our
@ecoeye
series finally comes to an end.
The last chapter is back to where we stated. Looking at why we still haven't cleaned up our rivers and lakes.
Tonight at 8pm on

Final episode up in 30 mins! Find out why, after 20 years of targets, with all the money we have spent on infrastructure, all the various agencies, all the volunteer work- why is our water supply getting more polluted year on year? “Troubled Waters” 8pm on

That wraps up our 20th (and maybe last) season of

Thanks for watching!
We'd love to have done more this year particularly on our energy challenges and what needs to be done to get Europe off Russian fossil fuels.
Thoughts are with the free people of Ukraine.
30 minutes until the final episode of Eco Eye season 20!

Do you really think that UK would have got a trade deal under those circumstances? Are you THAT detached from reality? Or is this just more populist posturing? Really hard to know tbh.
If Germany reinstate their six nuclear power plants, the price of their electricity would fall by 50%.
It would save millions of tonnes of Co2 from permanently polluting our shared atmosphere too.
It's blind ideological madness that they won't/ aren't doing this.
@OlafScholz
Some have wondered why I suggest that the price for electricity at the power exchange EEX will fall by 50-70% on the day the Germans decide to reinstate all six nuclear power plants, in contrast to the
@ifo_Institut

Here is why.

I guess they've forgotten that Covid-19 affects people of colour disproportionately more.
And these demonstrations are likely to reverse any gains made during an extremely difficult lockdown.
Despite the difficulties.
@EcoEye
we have managed to get back for series 20!
Starting tonight we explore why our towns are in decline and what can be done about it.
Ireland's town centres often have unique character + stunning heritage buildings. Could a new initiative aimed at the regeneration of our historic town centres be the key to restoring our communities? Find out more tonight 7pm on RTE one
@HeritageHubIRE
Ireland is in this mess because we've had decades of not caring about where we got our energy from.
The ONLY party that has said and tried to do anything about that over those years is now getting flack from all the uninformed who have no answers to the problem at all.
Inflation is to hit 8.5%, and all Ryan can say is take shorter showers & turn down the thermostat?
How about he tackles the war profiteering by fossil fuel industry, & scraps the carbon tax? Or retrofit people's homes and invest in free public transport!
Mining in the developing world comes with a huge human cost (that we need to address).
But cobalt is a very tiny fraction of that.
And most Cobalt does not go to EVs.
Yet some people 👇 get very interested in human rights when it's bashing the green transition.
Between 150,000 and 200,000 artisanal miners work cobalt deposits in Democratic Republic of Congo, including 80,000 children, with more than a million others economically dependent on their work. Each miner earns between $0.75 and $3 a day.

@WilliamsJon
Jon, it looks really bad for
@rtenews
that you're cherrypicking a quote from a 2007 synthesis report to justify more irresponsible editorial judgements in this space.
It's really not hard to find where the science has moved on since then.
in the 20 years we

have been communicating climate change, we've seen the resistance turn from denial to lip service to false promises to real promises to climate law. Next step must be climate action, but we will see many more layers of resistance to change.

In 2017, 28.7% of ship tonnage was for oil
A portion of ‘dry bulk’ is coal and the rest mostly iron ore, bauxite (aluminum ore) and grains
Plus, a small percentage of world tonnage is for moving liquified natural gas (LNG)
So, I estimated 40% total

speaking the truth here 👇
Facts can be uncomfortable but we're funding Putin and his warmongering because we're addicted to his fossil fuels.
"Our reliance on fossil fuels is costing us dear...in what's happening with Russia today," says 🇮🇪 Energy Minister Eamon Ryan.
"🇺🇸 is sending €350m of arms to 🇺🇦. But every day we 🇪🇺 spend €350m [on energy] which we give to 🇷🇺, which they invest in arms dropping on 🇺🇦."
Sweden’s top daily national newspaper will no longer accept adverts for fossil fuel brands or high carbon products like flights and ICE cars, in recognition of the fact that the goal of these adverts runs directly counter to their editorial policy of support for climate action!

Is there an argument that the sulfur might have been a net positive given the very large impacts we're expected to experience from warming?
Will we be asking ships in the future to INCREASE their sulfur pollution?

You've lost the room by talking about growth rates which are not benefiting middle income households or those trying to get on the property ladder.

This is so stupid. The capital cost and Co2 is already embedded in the construction.
Closing these down before all the coal is gone is plain ignorant.

If you own the carbon and want credit for sequestration. Then you also own the emissions and would want to be open to paying for that.
Otherwise this is not a good-faith argument.
@BrianLeddin
That's not quite true.
The remaining plants shut in April didn't yet show an increase in coal because they haven't gone through winter yet.
It's clear that hard coal and lignite did increase since 2020 as there nuclear power plants were phased out.
@paulmurphy_TD
They're segregated on the basis of biological sex. Not gender identity.
Yes, we should end segregation because it's unnatural. But if you're going to comment then try and be accurate.
@dorfman_p
This is a great idea. Using waste heat.
Thermal power stations generate loads of heat that is usually wasted but should go to swimming pools and district heating etc.

If there are any healthcare works that need accomodation or isolation near UCD. We are happy to loan half our home which is perfect as a newly restored bedsit with own entrance.
I've been cycling around Dublin since I was 10 years old and I love getting around my city by bike.
However, I don't want either of my children to cycle, given the awful road infrastructure here that makes it so dangerous for cyclists.
Very sad to see another good person killed
I absolutely love my burgers. But I'd like to live in a world where we pay the real cost of meat, for the industry to be heavily regulated and environmental impacts built in + minimised and farmers make most of that money (more than now). This world is possible.
Many councillors who voted against public consultation on new walking and cycling infrastructure are now voting against new plans because of "lack of public consultation".
You couldn't make this up!

The Commission on Human Rights have recognized the right of everyone to have conscientious objection to military service as a legitimate exercise of the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, as laid down in article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
New Belgian "green" party government are turning off zero carbon nuclear power in place of dirty fossil fuels.
Beware that greedy corporate interests are not the only enemy of climate action.
Stupidity and ideology can be just as environmentally destructive.

In the midst of a housing crisis, 180,000 homes lie vacant in Ireland.
Many are leading to a blight of dereliction in our urban areas.
In tonight's

we investigate why, and explore what we can do about it.
7pm

Look closely, these buildings are all derelict.
Across Ireland, we noticed one way to tackle dereliction was to cover it up. But this does nothing to address the fact the building still lies empty. Why aren’t we doing anything to tackle vacancy in Ireland? Tonight

Sabina's letter was akin to shouting at a rape victim to negotiate peace with their rapist while they're being raped and not lifting a finger to help.
It's not "pro-war" to point out how morally and factually detached it was.
Claim 7: "Carbon emissions are declining in most rich nations and have been declining in Britain, Germany, and France since the mid-1970s"
- True, but only for direct emissions. Offshoring of emissions of manufacture to China etc is one of the biggest reasons for this decline.
@EamonRyan
This is great news. We need just need to get past the other issues: 1) port infrastructure
2) grid connections
3) deployment vessels
4) red tape planning permissions and judicial reviews

All the weather you experience on a daily basis is weather.
Climate = weather averages over time.
No single weather event is just climate change. But all weather now has an anthropogenic climate forcing.
@killianwoods
@Aidan_Regan
Killian, thanks for sharing. However, you don't mention that most of the water used by data centres is returned back to the source downstream. It's diluted so as not to be too warm for the water source. It's generally not contaminated with sewage the way a small towns water is.
Claim 2: "The Amazon is not “the lungs of the world” "
True - But this statement was never meant literally. Saying that without recognising that the Amazons health is critically important to biosphere health seems to suggest an agenda in how that statement is framed.

Isn't it amazing that there are people that believe
@BjornLomborg

And sure if its too hot we can all just move to colder climates. Simple as that !

There is no scenario where mainstream use of SUV's is compatible with a sustainable planet.
We need to drive much less and when we do, in smaller electric cars.

Global car sales shrank by ~14% in 2020

Its essential that environmental advocacy is aligned with science. Otherwise it's in the same camp as climate deniers.
Claim 3: “Climate change is not making natural disasters worse”
False - The Earth is over 1C (MST) warmer due to anthropogenic climate change, this has an attribution effect on all extreme weather situations. And the science is becoming clear that this is now measurable.
