Looks to be about 193k doses taken by non-frontline/HSE ahead of 130k 70 plus who are waiting across Ireland for vaccines. Or, nearly 1 in 4 vaccines have been taken ahead of cohorts. That's criminal that such a culture exists in HSE and a Vaxx team who are clearly not in control

Good news; Peak Omicron is already over in South Africa. No restrictions were brought in. Hospitalisation rate 50% lower. Stay in hospitals were 80% shorter & like Ireland, many cases came from in hospital. Ireland has low case growth & increasing hospital capacity; worst is over

I was an "economic migrant" seeking better opportunities than I'd have had in Ireland, in London, Manchester, South Africa, Dubai, Saudi, Denmark, Holland, I never had racist protesters outside where I landed in these countries & towns. We've to help everyone, as all are equal.

โ‚ฌ160bn into roads. Wonโ€™t save โ€˜townsโ€™. As the towns are vacant due to lack of young people living in them and vacant homes / businesses. No point having fancy motorways; instead the priority has to be putting money into making towns vibrant through WFH grants & regen of vacant.

There are now NO homes to rent in 10,000 town of Dungarvan. No space for job hires to move into. No homes for retail & tourism talent. There's only 13 homes being built a quarter (& govt target missed by 35%), there's 528 vacant & there's 1,000 young @ home waiting 4 homes.

โ€˜Cost of materials are rising.โ€™ Nope. CRH down 30% since start of year. Kingspan down. Iron ore (steel) back to 21 prices. Timber back to 21 prices. Govt needs to start buying up vacant than newbuilds until the prices flow through. Or welcome in large EU companies to build homes.

You can buy vacant homes in Italy for โ‚ฌ1 as policy from Municipality, with the Municipality helping you get loans to regenerate towns. Meanwhile in Ireland, Vacant homes from both Councils & Dept "vacant strategy" has delivered no such actions since 2018.

Think about this. Taxpayers paid to build houses, which were sold by individuals to investment funds, who now lease them BACK to the state at taxpayer's expense. Absolute insanity. Paying for the same home multiple times, all to give profit to private funds & no asset at the end.

As a sense check; NPHET are forecasting more cases in the next three months than the whole of the pandemic; 300,000. Which means with 3m vaccines extra, 1 in 10 will get Covid & 2% hospitalized. In the US it is 0.002%. NPHET saying 950 times higher has huge impact. Itโ€™s Wrong.

2. Remember; the state is THE largest land owner. So, if the state builds, it could sell NOT at market value, but at COST of the land, which is 2.5k per home (as ultimately the state doesn't care about profit, explicitly, but social outcomes). Doing so would save 45k a home.

Maybe focus on why the vaccines rollout is slow. And thereโ€™s 3.5m living in counties with less than 100 cases/week

Limerick City and County Council failed to release to us, under FOI, the minutes for the meeting at which Niall Collins voted to dispose of council land. After repeated phone calls, emails and finally a suggestion The Ditch boys attend their offices, the council had to relent.

5. As @RoryHearne points out, the housing crisis is endemic and until land flipping is reduced through the state becoming THE developer from start to finish on their own land and own homes, the dysfunctional market wonโ€™t end the crisis as it pays to simply sit on land.

A 10% levy on โ‚ฌ1bn vacant homes in Cork is cโ‚ฌ100m. That can fund some of the โ‚ฌ400m yacht event. For the rest of the country, use the 10% on 18bn vacant is a 1.8bn fund for regen vacant & communities fund, match with credit union funds of mortgages. โ‚ฌ3.6bn is 14k โ‚ฌ250k homes

With over 350k vaccine stock on hand today, thereโ€™s no reason why doses are down at 18k a day average today & only rising slowly. It has to be 46k a day to meet June target. Every day, 26k not dosed is a town each day staying shut due to the slow rollout. โ‚ฌ80m a day cost.

3. That 48k then is added to the mortgage for the bank to make c40% profit on through the lifecycle of the mortgage; about 20k. So on a 25 year mortgage, that's 800 a year gifted to the bank that state/councils could save & see that spend in towns/high streets, rather than debt.

4. So from start to exit (home build), a land owner is making 20 fold gross profit in c3-4 years. Thatโ€™s one of key reasons of greed driving the housing crisis; itโ€™s gambling and big money required for big (unhealthy) returns on low risk (risk of homes not needed is low.)

The students ought to be emailing councillors going WTF and getting on radio as itโ€™s 47 years to get a home in Sligo for 8858 people not in plans

13. To know when you buy a home; land is 10% of the price (pushed up by all the Profits), developer profit is 20-30%, construction 10%. VAT -13.5% (ie inflates price and doesnโ€™t apply in NI), finance costs 7-12%. So if the state is told to build by voters, it saves 50%. Vote it.

There wonโ€™t be 7000 cases a day due to vaccines being 100 times higher, and working. There werenโ€™t 5,000 a day as forecast in Mar-June there were 500. Itโ€™s scandalous.

@Andy_2000x @frank_oconnor @davidmcw I asked a county Council Economic Development Director to put the vacant units to put them all on a map to enable investors and communities to see where the vacant units were. Response? โ€˜Will make us look bad and weโ€™d have to then do work to then regenerate them.โ€™ Some mindset!
