My dad aka "Deddeh" still heads the farm.Myself & him are quite alike, both in looks (apparently) and demeanour, so we've locked heads over issues over the years.
He was diagnosed with Parkinsons which in time meant I was doing a lot of the farm work along with my mum.

Really interesting research from Holland on milk
If you combine the healthiness and nutrient content with the ecological impact (CO2) then milk is not bad at all. Actually, milk comes out better than plant-based imitations, Irish milk is even better with a low carbon footprint!

Great to see so many cows lying down. In a robot shed there are always cows on the move. Their routine is go to be milked, then eat and then lie down.

This is the younger group of calves whose cows have not gone back incalf yet. As they calved later thsn the rest, we thought it safer to split them until they got stronger and means we don't have one large group on wet land damaging it.
As you can see, they're all very docile!

We’re milking 60 cows here today.
First row of cows are in the parlour every morning at 6:30am and evening milking starts in the evenings at 4pm.
Milking generally takes 1hr so the cows get back to fresh grass pretty quick.

One of my favourite topics. Our cows! Due to the fact we have a limited land block around the yard to graze cows for the summer, we always calved some cows in the autumn. Dad got a "liquid contract" from Kilkenny Creamery in the early 80s, which subsequently became an Avonmore

All are very relaxed around us but they'd be up like a shot if a stranger arrived alone to see them!
We culled hard for docility traits to make life easier & this is why I don't believe the Salers or Limousin breeds are inherently wild/flighty.

We go to great effort here to maximise cow welfare. Healthy cows are productive cows and go to reduce our overall carbon footprint per litre sold. We installed mattresses with 50mm of latex foam underneath, flexible cubicles and put in brushes to allow cows scratch.
