Political scientist. Married with 2 absolutely beautiful children. Views expressed are 100% my own and do not represent anyone else with whom I associate.
@svershbow
Also, it needs to be stated and restated that acknowledging you have a “difficult” child to raise does not correlate to you loving them any less than if they were “easier”. We can love our kids and still admit they take a toll on us mentally, physically, etc.
@natalie_morrill
Would have been fantastic to have a representative in the OR during and after my emergency c-section at Sturgeon County Hospital. Maybe they’d be able to testify to the doctor’s negligence that nearly killed me, and somehow magically didn’t make it onto my medical records. 😒
@AlphaclassARC
@ArnallLabrador
Racism requires power imbalance, which is why he said it as he did. The oppressed can’t be racist against the oppressor ‘cause they don’t hold the power. What you’re referring to is prejudice. Prejudice is possible, not racism, as prejudice doesn’t require imbalance of power.
…….photos of the “crowd” from Peepee’s shindig today in Halifax.
What do you notice?!?
I notice:
1) the poor kid in the forefront holding a sign you know he didn’t make or buy for himself,
and 2) that’s a very uhm… ⚪️… crowd… 🫣

It just showcases how much untreated trauma we all apparently have. It comes from the fear that, the moment you let your guard down or give too much freedom, something bad could happen.. and then you’d blame yourself, because you eased up. If you hadn’t, they’d still be safe. 😔

And, she used her kids as pawns for the TikTok in question to get sympathy and monetary gain from going viral.. kids she doesn’t even have custody of. She’s embarrassed her family enough for the both of them.
@CNN
Reese sounds like a sore winner. How dare FLOTUS suggest including the runner up. Just because it’s never been done before, doesn’t mean it can’t ever happen. She’s a woman trying to celebrate women. LSU is the team I cheer for in every sport, but this behaviour is just gross.
@skyriders1
Well said, but also keep in mind - a lot of the programs highlighted (the new ones) are coming from the NDP. These are resolutions voted on at last year’s convention that are now being introduced by the NDP, but rolled out through partnership with LPC.

It was proven in his NB and NS stops. Both stops he said “over 2000 people” showed up. When called out in HFX, he started saying there were “others” in an “overflow room”. Only to be called out again, with floor plans from the hotel’s website showing other rooms’ size & location.
@HelenHuntingdon
@ask_aubry
It’s really not baffling. People think the internet and social media removes any type of personal responsibility. Who you see someone being on the internet is their true self. Their persona in “real life” is a front (although nowadays many have given up trying to cover at all).

It is. Being able to afford to do laundry so often is a privilege. Having enough pairs to change daily is a privilege too. Not everyone has those things.

I buy $10 gift cards to Subway, Tim Horton’s and MacDonalds and hand those out. As well as clean socks, hats and mittens in the winter. We also usually do up gift bags full of goodies around the holidays. We make sure a few have dog treats and toys for the people with pups.

“Wonderful” as far as Gayle knew. But based on how Linda treated Gayle, I doubt she was the type to ever bare her soul to her child. If she had traumas, she probably kept them bottled up. Not defending her, but just from personal experience, that’s a plausible assumption.
@John1MD
That’s interesting that it cost anything. My husband had a cyst removed from his neck recently in Nova Scotia by his family doctor and it didn’t cost anything out-of-pocket. A hospital visit for it also would have carried no out-of-pocket cost.
@HfxRegPolice
Soooooo….. hm.. I guess there must not have been any children there to pepper spray. Or do you only resort to that when people are doing something worthwhile - like standing up for the homeless population?

Absolutely have “stepped foot” on many. I never said Indigenous peoples could not be prejudice, of course anyone can be prejudice. I said it’s impossible for the oppressed to be racist due to lack of power imbalance. They are not the same word.

The woman faked cancer for sympathy and presumably monetary gain. I think any discretion she may have deserved went out the window when she did that.

The “not all of us feel that way” and “there are always a few bad apples” arguments are out in full force today. Smdh.
You cannot stand shoulder to shoulder with someone waving a swastika flag, while claiming you’re on the right side of history.

People, it’s legal in the US to have a gun in your checked baggage. That’s how she “got through” TSA at LAX. Obviously that’s a flaw in the system, because laws where she was going were not taken into account when she boarded. Legal where she got on, illegal where she landed.
Ok, so let’s talk about the NSPC party going into the next election for a second…
Their previous Minister of Community Services had to resign for medical reasons, no shade there.
Their new one is my MLA who likely won’t be reelected because he fucked his constituents over.

For high school students? No. They’re in high school. Let’s stop infantilizing high school students. Mommy and daddy don’t need to give their stamp of approval for their young adult offspring to learn about safe anal sex or if girls orgasm. This is 2024, not 1924. Catch up.
@jessehitchcock
@LisaRobertsHfx
And even then, even homeownership is not really “stable” or “safe” because, with prices the way they are, many people are house-poor and one missed paycheque away from losing everything!
@Rambo_Hair

*high school students.
It’s not like they were 10-year olds. These were “kids” who were probably already having sex, or at least masterbating. The questions were completely valid.

Got it! Sorry. The original post felt like you were saying you billed the patient $150 (I know some procedures cost out-of-pocket), so I was confused. Thanks for clearing that up!

The federal Liberals are not the reason we will be paying more than anyone else in the country. Sure, they’re the reason for the tax itself.. but they’re not the reason we’re about to be the worst-off in the country.

@CTVAtlantic
Let’s be realistic.. if these people strike, we’re all screwed. Schools CANNOT operate without cleaners, EPAs, bus drivers, etc. At the very least, our schools will become completely inaccessible to special needs children. At worst, they’ll have to close entirely.
@ChenderClaudia
It was so cringe to watch. You could tell
@TimHoustonNS
believed what he was saying but
@StrangRobert
looked completely uncomfortable with the messaging, telling people to chill out with rising numbers and it’s not a bad illness etc. Felt unnatural/forced for him. 😔

Thankfully she’s not special needs or she wouldn’t be in school for the past few weeks right before graduation… Imagine how many futures you’re ruining by refusing to return to the bargaining table.

Reminds me of when my son went for genetic testing a little while ago. One of the warnings beforehand is that my husband and I may find out we’re related.. lol. We both laughed nervously as we agreed to have the testing done.

It’s also the fact they’re pushing not only a relationship but a heteronormative relationship by default. Those who complain about the queer community “grooming” children are the same people consistently pushing their own ideals on children. It’s hypocritical at best.

The ship lost power and couldn’t turn away from the pillar. When it regained power it was too late. There are videos. You can see them trying to steer away as soon as power comes back on.

See, and as a teen I was roughly the size of the girl on the other side of the guy in your picture, but bigger boobs.. and I was relentlessly tortured for being fat. Fast forward 10 years.. I’m roughly 100lbs more than I was then and I now realize I wasn’t fat at all. 😔

When you experience things as a kid that you should have been protected from, you tend to overcompensate by being overprotective when you become a parent because you don’t want your kid to have the memories and traumas you have. Nothing about avoiding guilt or society’s opinion.
@TimHoustonNS
What about
@CUPE5047
?!?
What about disabled children being locked out of school because your government refuses to return to the bargaining table? Not only a human rights violation but a Charter violation as well. Do better!
@RealStirfryguy
This. I have cousins who weren’t even allowed to tell ghost stories growing up due to overly religious parents sheltering them. Those poor kids knew nothing about safe sex or what was “normal” or “okay” to feel until they were out on their own and forced to educate themselves.
@safe_hrm
Not speaking to his situation specifically ‘cause I don’t know, but even if he had supports inside & outside of school & everyone was doing everything possible… “everything possible” is usually not enough, because what’s available is so limited. My son is being failed too. 😔

Yep. I know we’re not allowed to make noises in the gallery but there were a few times I couldn’t hold back my disgust. “I’ve heard from both sides”….. excuse you Mr. Houston?! In a debate about sexual assault, what constitutes “both sides”.. 🤨
@saltywidowrn
I was literally stunned by the original post, and it’s comments, with the amount of people excusing verbal abuse as “not abusive”. Verbal abuse (regardless of its motivation) is abuse. Period.

You understand that’s a good thing right? This would boost soooo many peoples’ credit scores. Years and years of positive rent payments would make renters look better to the bank when asking for a mortgage! Only slumlords oppose this idea.
@SLThank4thefish
I don’t report people stealing food because they could have children at home counting on them to get that meal in their bellies, but a guy ran out of my Sobeys a week ago with $500 worth of lobster. I doubt he was a desperate parent trying his best. But you never know I guess. 🤷🏻♀️
@sarahabriel
I think the point is many won’t. It’s characteric of the “type” of person who would attend. No regard for rules or empathy for society. No repercussions. People turn their lives around when their actions are met with consequences. Without consequences, there is rarely change.
@sack_vegas
I would but the NDP candidate for my riding leaves a lot to be desired, and strategic voting is very real in Canada’s multi-party system. I feel a vote for NDP in my area would contribute to a PC victory there, unfortunately it’s just not worth the risk. 😔

Instead of going after the company and the government, why don’t we put the onus on the people who are actually leaving them in the middle of the sidewalk? There are records of who rents them and where they leave them. If they’re doing in the middle of the sidewalk, charge a fee.

I went on my CRA yesterday. It’s hidden in the benefits and credits section. $248 in July, October and January is what I qualify for. My gas went up $10/tank so that’s enough to offset the carbon tax on nearly 25 tanks of gas (way more than I’d fill up in 3 months).
