I feel we have a fixation on doing the right thing. When we're young, we look to the rules for a guiding light, but after we get to know the world (and humanity) we realize that rules don't always align with what's right, especially when we consider who wrote them.

Finn comes from a post-apocalyptic world where all human history and culture has been lost, so there's no longer any true barriers between races anymore.
And the world is now populated by so many non-humans that ethnicities only amount to one's species at best.

Most people tend to focus on the part of the story where the equivalent of Superman butchered the equivalent of the Justice League so as to prepare the Earth for conquest. And from then, they tend to just focus on the butcherings and violence instead of the story or characters.

Writing isn't as easy as it sounds either. It's one thing to have an idea for a story, but writing means that you have to put it into words, make it comprehensible, and organize it all into a beginning, middle, and end. And then there's character development and deus ex machina.
