It doesn't replace a creative role. It automates a particularly grueling task to make cutscene staff's lives exponentially easier so they can better focus on other manual aspects.
FFVII Rebirth lead animation and cutscene programmer Ryō Hara says that outside of cutscenes, the game makes wide use of AI-generated lip sync movements. While Remake generated these via phonetic analysis, Rebirth used an AI trained on cutscenes from the previous game. (RbU 2024)
