@___frye So Wall E is a work glorifying the indomitable Promethean spirit of humanity despite even the darkest clutches of dogmatism.

@varunramg The year is 2030. The entire Y Combinator class is payroll apps. You must swear fealty to gay race communism to get a job. The government decides which payroll app everyone is required to use each year based on their alignment with the principles of diversity and inclusion.

@bf_crane “The Devil Went Down to Georgia” is a timepiece song celebrating America as the pinnacle post-Enlightenment country. It’s the progeny of Goethe’s Faust as it lauds the triumph of man over the devil.

@ApodacaHaracio @___frye It’s dark because it’s atrophying. It turns humans spiritually and physically (as seen in the movies) into sub-human sludge. People reach their potential by striving, yearning, exploring… all major themes of the movie.

@twinkdefcon What do you think would have happened? . If Trump was killed every single person who owns a MAGA hat and an AR would be out in the streets indefinitely. Do you, TwinkDefcon, feel compelled to take on a domestic militia? . If Trump was killed every American alive today would lose.

@Austen There's no pausing - if OpenAI goes to 1 or 2 they die as a company and everyone else keeps going at 10. "Slowing down" in the way Emmett Shear envisions it is impossible.

When are we going to admit that “beating depression” is just taking the obvious steps to improve your life and that obsessing over “neurochemicals” has done more harm than good.
They buried the lede on this new study. It's not that exercise beats out SSRIs for depression treatment, but that *just* dancing has the largest effect of *any treatment* for depression. That's kind of beautiful.

@___frye The book Creativity Inc, written by one of the co-founders of the company is precisely about how they were able to consistently produce great films one after the other. The answer to why they don't do it anymore is: the leadership changed and the culture was not strong enough to.

@DuchessSexpert I beg everyone to consider, definitionally, what “poverty” means and whether “able to afford the avg 1 bedroom apartment” fits in with the idea that word is trying to describe.

@bronzeagemantis My black pill on parenting is that either you are a good parent or you are not (regardless of how you discipline your children) and the only way to “become a better parent” is to just deal with your own shit first.

@chrislhayes @Dogstoyesky This is entirely and wholly untrue. The left wing version of BAP is, like, Ibram Kendi and there are plenty of democrats wholly aligned with outright marxism.

@SCHIZO_FREQ Yah bro natural selection. The next generation will honestly be so much more normal I’m disappointed I’m not part of it. Truly only the normies will survive.

@C_U271D Here is a more musical version that enunciates the dactylic hexameter the Iliad was written and meant to be read in:

@dsonoiki suffering the consequences of your beliefs, especially when you put broader society in harm's way because of them, is ok actually

@annarmitchell I have similar fantasies. Car will stop running in 3 months and you cannot find parts unless you want to fly them in for thousands of dollars from all around the world. That’s before you find a mechanic who knows how to fix it. But those 3 months will be incredible.

@milquepoast But only the truly unburdened. Those burdened with emotional inferiority in the shadows of their parents… seem to create the most horrible parts of society.

@airkatakana @CallMeOuta Unfair to say that a country the size of a continent is “fundamentally broken” because you need a car to get around when you’re not in major metropolitan areas.

@JLM4CivilRights @zarathustra5150 In the canonical version of this argument, the thinking goes that those men fought or were eligible to fight when they were younger and thus were once under the same arrangement.

Guy who believes you can separate ethics from metaphysics. Show me one pre-modern stable society which did this effectively. “God is dead” was a pronouncement about the social implications of the collapse of an ontology.
The phrase "God-shaped hole" is misleading because religion is largely about community and tradition, not god. The metaphysics, of course, can be pleasing and meaningful, but the importance of religion is grounded in daily life, not in abstract beliefs.

@Slatzism The writers should keep doing exactly the same thing but write for the Babylon Bee instead. They’d fit right in.
