@diedsuddenly
Sadly a healthy constituent of mine in her 40s died suddenly of a blood-clot a fortnight ago, the day after receiving the booster jab. Most concerning, but of course we must not ask questions. We must not question….Boris said a million jabs, and so be it, even if it kills us.
I am proud of my co-religionists.

SHAKING UP LOCAL POLITICS
Somehow made the front page, with a full spread, in the UK-wide Jewish Tribune.
Surreally, whilst shopping for groceries, I was stopped by a gentleman who asked me to autograph his copy! 😳
Now back to the huge pile of new casework. Fame has a price!
I was honoured today by the Manchester
@SatmarMCR
community to present
@salford_mayor
with a framed certificate recognising the mutual respect the leader of Salford and the leader of Satmar have for each other.
The certificate has been mounted on the wall in the Mayor's office.
Are we, as a country, not ashamed that we’re using public funds to prosecute
@philip_group
for growing his own medicine, due to Nixon-era racist drug policies imported from the US, via the UN to the UK?
Use the money to fund the NHS to pay for his prescription legally!
Just boarded a plane to Athens.
Chartered and paid for by a Jewish charity in NY. Their representatives were standing in the airport offering free flights.
I'll update when we get to ATH. Still no idea how we'll get home from there, but at least we'll be out of missile range.
Story from a legal

The usual pile of bills and junkmail. Interestingly, an invitation to the

Well that’s the end of my weekend hiatus.
Honoured to sign “the book” in the presence of our esteemed Chief Executive,
@tomstannard
, who always goes out the extra mile to make sure everything runs smoothly and everyone is happy.
It’s back to work now!
Yet again, the disabled are treated as criminals for the simple crime of taking a legally prescribed medication.
Legal medicinal cannabis has been around in the UK longer than both Brexit and COVID. Yet police and others get away with feigning ignorance.
Another day, another UK medical

patient with a legal prescription for cannabis being treated like a criminal. Why aren't the police getting the message? What is the solution? Is this happening in other countries? We'd love to hear your thoughts.

Seems I missed the most exciting meeting of the year, as I was representing Salford in welcoming the Grand Rabbi of Satmar from New York, who is visiting for the first time since assuming the position in 2006.

After constituent complaints about overgrowing bushes in their ginnel, rather than trying to involve

Two hours on a Friday afternoon, help from my kids and a hedge-trimmer, we now have happy constituents!

A great event, and fantastic to have had the opportunity to have a chat with
@ProfDavidNutt
- one of the most intelligent and articulate people I have ever met. His bravery in speaking out against non evidence-based drug policy was my inspiration to get involved in politics.
Great turnout at the launch of the new

For evil to prevail, all that is needed is for good people to do nothing, but a little light can overturn a lot of darkness, and it is people like

I had a great debate today with

where we argued (but mainly agreed) about the stupidity of the government criminalising NO2 - they’ve been losing the War on Drugs for 50 years.

TLDR: Nothing much has changed. Tories still trying to block the Unions from striking, government in disarray, and the long-awaited guide to urban cycling is about to be released. Still as bad as ever.
Absolutely flabbergasted that the
@Conservatives
are blaming
@SalfordLabour
for cutting public services, when Local Governments are facing a £3.9bn deficit DUE TO TORY CUTS TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT.
When the eight-year old starts bullying the one-year old (and the two-year old has legged it) the 49-year old needs to step in.

Sadly still illegal in the UK, but it is good to see progress being made at least on the other side of the pond.
Why are we not outraged that our government mandates what private citizens can and can’t consume? There will come a time when we will look back in astonishment!
The support and encouragement the motion’s received is outstanding. Keep it up! 99% of the responses have been brilliant.
To the 1%: Argue with the politics, criticise their content, but ad hominem attacks on other councillors are unacceptable & harm the cause I am fighting. 1/7
Absolutely incredible visit at

@SalfordCO_NHS
together with
@SalfordCouncil
has arranged another drop-in session for 13-18 year olds, and appointments for under fives, at Broughton Hub, Sunday, June 19th. Babies in the morning, teens afternoon.
Salford’s LibDems also strongly support the motion, making it the first tri-partisan motion to pass since I’ve been on the council (which admittedly is not very long).
Tory cuts to local government are inexcusable and disproportionately affect the poorer members of society.
Pleased Salford’s Conservatives agreed with
@SalfordLabour
’s motion at
@SalfordCouncil
’s Full Council meeting, calling on the government to urgently increase funding & stop forcing councils to increase council tax by at least 3%, mainstream 2022/23 uplift etc... Details here.👇🏻

I need a KC (or other suitable barrister) to quote to provide an opinion on the difference between licensed and unlicensed medication, and whether there is a difference in Equality Law for users. I know the answer is ‘no’, but PUBLIC HEALTH is adamant!! Frustrating.
If you live in Blackfriars and Trinity, polling day is tomorrow. If you’ve received a postal vote but haven’t sent it, don’t despair; you can deliver your card to any polling station tomorrow 7am-10pm.

It was not pre-planned. I entered the chamber as a non-member.
@jackyoud90
's motion convinced me that this is the only way to save this country.
I promised not to leave the chamber without joining.
I have fulfilled my promise, and am thrilled to bits.
I’ve recruited a lot of people to a union before. But it’s a first for me to recruit a fellow Salford councillor during full council as a result of my motion in solidarity with
@RMTunion
.
Welcome to the union
@CllrWalters
It’s Purim and Kersal and Broughton Park is like no other day. If you don’t have where to eat the meal (or even if you do, but you just don’t like your mother-in-law), come join me. DM for address.
All welcome, Jewish or not. Men or women. Even if you can only come for an hour…
For anyone who thinks the North/South divide is not real….
Londoners can get up to £25,000 for energy improvements whilst Salfordians get up to £5,000.
Why?
I’m looking forward to continue serving and advocating for all of my constituents, of any religion or none!
I do not discriminate on religion, race or gender, and much of my casework involves helping members of all of the diverse communities in Kersal and BP.
Orationem interruptum!
My maiden speech at
@SalfordCouncil
Full Council reduced to 50 seconds due to eristical Tory filibustering.
Huge waste of time spend on irrelevant semantics with no benefit to the 250,000 residents of this city.
There’s nothing gained by rodomontading.
Almost a year to the day since I spoke in Full Council about the racist roots of cannabis prohibition.
The US is changing, with only two states having no legal access.
The UK needs to keep up.
I spoke about the racist roots of prohibition and its role in Modern Slavery in

’s Full Council yesterday.
“Reefer makes * think they're as good as white men. The primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."
Salford (Manchester) is slowly but surely getting on the map. No longer shall we remain (in the eyes of many who have never been) a “village in London with 30 residents”.
Thanks
@SalfordCouncil
,
@GMPSalford
and
@manchesterfire
for your support with the
#Lagbomer
celebrations.
I built this computer in 2015 and it’s still going strong. I used the New Year break to add a couple of hard drives (now 11TB HDD, 6TB SDD, 2xDVD, 3.5” 1.44MB floppy), more USB ports (now 25), and reinstall OS.
Can someone please help me tidy the wiring? I’m scared to touch it.
It was an honour to speak in support of workers’ rights and pay, and against the inequality that is sadly growing in this country.
“When WE have to decide whether to heat our homes or feed our children, THEY are struggling to decide whether to buy a new yacht or a new aeroplane”
We strike because we have had enough. It has been heart warming seeing colleagues join the union, solidarity from other unions and political friends lending their voice to our request ✊🏾.

Foundation-stone laying ceremony of the new Satmar boys’ and girls’ schools, attended by thousands from Manchester, London, Europe and the US, in the presence of the Satmar Grand Rabbi.
The best (tongue-in-cheek) comment all night was from the armed

police officers, when everyone was leaving: “I suppose you’re all going off together now to get stoned”.
Huge sinkhole on Radford Street!
15" diameter, stretching 6ft underneath. The whole road may be about to collapse! I visited the site, and met residents.
After 'debate' between residents,
@SalfordCouncil
and
@unitedutilities
, the latter has finally taken responsibility!
I beg to differ. Far more people are hurt by the criminalisation of cannabis than by cannabis itself. Cannabis is far safer than alcohol. Portugal has shown that decriminalisation greatly reduces drug deaths. Let's make this a health issue, not a police one.
We were awoken early one morning this week by

A KC opinion to prove to
@salfordcouncil
that the advice they received from Public Health was wrong. But it costs £5,000 + VAT. I don’t know if the council plan to contribute, so all contributions welcome, and we’ll do it with or without their money!
£350 for a peak return from Manchester to London.
I’ve found cheaper to New York!
Next direct train was an hour away, so this Bournemouth-bound train (changing at Stafford) seemed ideal.
Except there were four carriages instead of eight!
SARDINES, I tell you.
@CrossCountryUK
Sorry John :-(
Music has been ‘banned’ for the last month and for the next two weeks, so people are catching up.
Great picture though.
There is a TEN (Temporary Event Notification) in place allowing amplified music until 1am at TTYL on Bury New Road.
Unbelievable! We finished 20 minutes early. First time in my term, anyway.
Glad to be in chambers after having been in temporary accommodation due to COVID and a leaky roof; I can actually see and hear what is happening.
Do not take good acoustics for granted.
At my third full council meeting since May.
Tories refusing to speak due to a reason they think everyone knows, but no-one has a clue. Apparently an exemption can be made if one is “livid, furious and angry”, so that’s all right.
Disclaimer for whoever reported me to

for breaching the Code of Conduct - Since the party didn't happen, nor did this video.
There is one party which I wish hadn't happened. I'll give you a clue. It's a nasty four letter word. Begins with a 'T' and ends in a 'Y'.
It is very satisfying when I’m able to help people. Here’s a comment from someone in Lower Kersal.
“Thank you so much for your care and concern. We are so lucky to have such a responsive councillor as you.”
Thanks too to

I get it. It is really frustrating when politicians say things that are clearly incorrect, badly-advised, or just wrong. My blood boils too!
But they are human. They can make mistakes. You may disagree with them. I certainly do on most issues. But they feel pain.
Please.
