Something that should have been fairly instinctual but I only realized recently when it was explicitly stated to me.
But property taxes are often higher in rural counties because there's still a base level of necessary services but fewer taxpayers to divide the cost amongst.

Not to mention there's just too much isolation between classes at that point. The poor don't resent the truly rich, either. You want to be seen as one class above you and you want to differentiate from one class below. The rich have more disdain for the middle than the poor.
