Lately, I’ve noticed more Salafis claiming the Mālikī Madhhab. But almost none of its major transmitters were Atharī. The school’s greatest scholars—Qurthubi, Ibn Khaldūn, Abu Bakr Ibn al-‘Arabī, Sanūsī, Ibn Abī Zayd and Shāṭibī—were all Ash‘arī.

I reckon Shaykh Abdul Fattah abu Ghuddah (d. 1997) and Shaykh Abdul Karim al Muddaris (d.2005) would also be top candidates deserving of the title.

This is a Qasida penned by Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Yallis al Shādhili Darqawi. He was a student and successor of Shaykh Ahmad Al Alawi. Later in his life he emigrated to Damascus. When the French took control of Syria, the Shaykh (now 80) led a revolt against the colonial powers.

Remember that Al Juwayni the great *Ash'ari Mutakalim* held the title Imam ul Haramyn and will be referred to by that title till the end of time. As the years go by these "Salafi Imams" will be forgotten to time.

I was informed by a scholar whom I trust that in Bradford there have been cases where individuals have memorised the entire Quran and studied several years of the ‘alimiya’ program that have then left Islam. He also mentioned several cases where people have become apostates but.
