@kevinbaker I've actually found some level of success in this IRL. When people start talking culture war shit and you respond "yeah so you give more of a shit about library books than like, healthcare? that's p weird" they get very uncomfortable. or "you do realize it's kinda weird to give.

@rauchg @ken_wheeler > getting out of the house and meeting people you enjoy working with is huge for wellbeing. that is why I have a social life. I do not need work to create a daycare for me to be babysat by middle managers to have a social life.

@ojampdelas @durandalcomplex @lapwing37082 Cool! How much room do you think you need to grow food for all of those animals? How much room do you think you need to store all of that food? How much room do you think you need to store all of the extra food you’ll need to grow for when that food goes bad?. The average.

@yacineMTB The awesome part is that it’s all barely working in concert together. The extent that the world is held together by duct tape and Elmer’s glue is remarkable. Working in infosec taught me that, working in software cemented it.

if a kid kills themself because an AI bot convinced them to, and we're looking at the AI bot company and not the parents, mental healthcare system, etc, we're missing the plot. AI safety is hot right now, but let's not pretend like the real problem here is an imaginary chatbot.
We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our users and want to express our deepest condolences to the family. As a company, we take the safety of our users very seriously and we are continuing to add new safety features that you can read about here:.

this is why i care about this:. i have spent a collective 6 months of the last 3 years jobless with two kids and a wife in school after 3 separate layoffs. i've put myself in debt to cover bills, and things are still tight now because of what i had to do then.

I love that this is @levelsio ‘s new response to the “this is easy” tweets. Most likely case: they never do it and keep chirping on the sidelines. “Worst” case: they do it, a new product enters the market, someone learns how to ship and is better for it.

I am not as good at malware development as most maldevs are. I’m not half as good at web development as most webdevs are. I’m not 1% as good at ML as most ML folks are. I’m trying, daily, to get better at these things, like @yacineMTB is at building hardware. These comments.
@yacineMTB I did this when I was 17 with an arduino, in school, on limited hours, and it was really not my area of expertise. This is trivial, show us something thats actually new and useful. Go back to the ding mindset.

@IwriteOK 6 magazines of ammunition to… evacuate Florida during a mass evacuation event. 1 magazine per meal. Also why even have a section called “mobility” if you’re going to have to carry like 10 gallons of water with you? How are you going to fire any of the three weapons carrying all.

@yacineMTB 3D printers were made to be fixed, tinkered with and improved. 2D printers are made to function badly, cost money and look drab in a shitty office setting. Closed hardware without a focus on end user tinkerability will always work that way. It’s why I worry about how complex and.

“Serverless” is insane because it appears to be one of the most legitimately dangerous drugs with the potential to gigafry your brain but is exclusively taken by literal turbojuniors who unironically want to like “simplify their infrastructure” and get oneshotted by a DDoS attack.
"Ayahuasca" is insane because it appears to be one of the most legitimately dangerous drugs with the potential to gigafry your brain but is exclusively taken by literal turbonormies who unironically want to like "fix the tech debt in the org" and basically get oneshotted by it.

@t3dotgg Vercel and next made it really easy to put garbage software online. Removal of barriers is good, but it comes with dangers. I feel the same way about bootcamps. We should get more people in software dev, but we should be just as wary about the dangers of serverless as we are.

So far the reasons I've seen online are:.- canonical sucks.- ubuntu is corpoware.- ubuntu is for babies.- arch is 1337.- it's hard ~= it's better.- all the cool people use it. @yacineMTB you do Arch, do you have any non-vibes based reasons to pick it over Ubuntu?.
I have used Arch before. Was a PITA to set up, but it was alright once it worked. I have used Ubuntu before. Was incredibly easy to set up, experience with it was just as fine. I can be convinced to do an Arch install, I just don't see why.

@IwriteOK Why do people think mass evacuation situations are roughly akin to the end of the world when we have half a dozen instances of them occurring every summer/fire season?. You’re more likely to need a tire patch kit than a couple dozen rounds of ammunition.

@evacide one of the many ways that liberals will enable fascists in the name of fighting fascists. "We need to remove online anonymity in order to <protect kids/stop fascist organizing online/fight drugs>, and it's fine because liberals are in power!".*liberals lose power*."oh no".
