Honestly romantic as fuck. Like knowing that soon that you’re big time in love and showing it but just like not getting around to all the legal bullshit is so beautiful 😢
Manning Fireworks is such a "kinda good" record that the wildly varying opinions on it now are kinda baffling to me. BNM was confusing, the Needle Drop 3/10 is about as confusing. Y'all never heard a kinda good bargain bin '90s indie rock record before?
The overvaluation of music’s “personal” quality sucks and limits creativity to a depressing degree. Imagine if every single novel was a thinly veiled autobiography. Why do we expect this from music?
Starting to see some criticism on this (which I welcome) due the "focus" on Jeong, but: whether you think he's god's gift to K-pop or not, the members reconnecting with him and composer/producers that worked with them in the early LOONA day is a defining component of ARTMS.
Arising from the ashes of pioneering K-pop group LOONA,
@official_artms
reintroduces five familiar faces as avatars of seemingly limitless creativity.
@tsdenizen
talks to HeeJin, HaSeul, Kim Lip, JinSoul and Choerry about their new chapter
The most incurious people on earth are staffing the big name music pubs and everyone else gets to beg them for sporadic underpaid work. Very good system, glad I’m here.
@DoxxxyStocksy
Seth came out looking really noble so he doesn’t actually look bad. Did the main event tag and got his knee more fucked up but didn’t eat a pin. Lost to Drew injured after having a 45 minute match less than 24 hours before. Then aggro’d Roman and cost him the title.
And I think if LOONA was truly the same after 2019, we wouldn't be in this position where literally every member wanted out of Blockberry. If there was no difference between Jeong and Blockberry, 5 members wouldn't have reconnected with him. That's my point.
Now feels like great opportunity to remind everyone once again that I’m starting a zine called Rantipole. Got BC Daily, P4K, Post-Trash, PopMatters, LOBF writers involved already, should be neat.

My dawg. My guy. Why would you go out of your way to tell someone that she’s definitely lying when you supposedly didn’t know what was being discussed?
@lethalrejection
I don't really buy into traditional ideas of "ambition" but it's super weird to me that there are people who are totally cool with just... not doing stuff. Like fuck a rat race but you still need to feed yourself and find some personal projects.
That feeling when you're kinda mad
@IAmJericho
won't shut up about Omaha Steaks in the middle of a conversation but he still managed to make the plugs silly enough that it's become a meme and has gotten them over the same way he's gotten over his wrestling gimmicks. Dude is sly.
Anyways, I'm not surprised or offended by a little pushback. There are "camps" here in a way, and my take is that "the spirit of LOONA" is defined both by the vocalists and the vision of the creative director.
@RevivedOziach
The argument that P4 has bad antagonists has never held water. Compare Namatame and Adachi to Ikutski and Strega in P3 or Shido and Akechi in P5. Kinda think P4 handily clears them.
It’s exceedingly rough to run a label on your own.
Shout-out to everyone in one of the least glamorous and most misunderstood positions around. Most of us are doing like 10 jobs in one and losing money along with it. It takes true love and no one should ever doubt it. ❤️
New Swift album is two fucking hours of a billion dollar brand trying to convince everyone she’s a real person by feeding deeper into streaming trends and co-opting the overly specific rhetoric of buzzy indie artists without the poetic flair. The results are disturbingly uncanny.
@lethalrejection
I have basic boy dumb dumb brain so the septum piercing does it for me but it’s gotta be the right size. Too big and I whip out a red cape and take matador stance.
@WrestlingNewsCo
That bump is a good sign. It’s obviously going to take time but I think the Danielson era is gonna do well once people settle into what Collision is now.
Morning, all.
For my
@bestfitmusic
debut, I wrote about/spoke with ARTMS (
@official_artms
), the new unit featuring HeeJin, HaSeul, Kim Lip, JinSoul and Choerry from LOONA and the most exciting K-pop act of 2024. Huge thanks to
@alanthology
for the edits.
jj skolnik is really the only editor who ALWAYS got back to me on a pitch whether it was a yes or no. And I get the editors at bigger places are overwhelmed, but ESPECIALLY if you've worked with a writer before, acknowledge their pitches.
I know we freelance journos say this all the time, but it bears repeating - editors, pleeease respond to our pitches, even a curt no thanks will do. But please take that twenty seconds to reply and put us out of our misery

I still hold that one of the biggest reasons music journalism is “losing value” is that we’ve failed to hard pivot towards discovery/backing new artists in a meaningful way vs. validating or challenging perceptions of artists everyone already knows in the wake of streaming.
Got my first threats of violence over something I wrote, think that means I'm finally a real journo or whatever. Just a long delayed rite of passage. Anyways I stand by the article and if people want to angst over their inferences as opposed to what is actually said... cool.
First piece since losing my "professional" Twitter account! I spoke with Reece McLean for two hours about Denton's busted-ass rock music. I invite you into a world of janky discordant no wave from a weird fuckin college town. For

Nick Jackson is world championship material aside from the fact that if he can’t execute a series of double team attacks with Matt every match he will literally die from sadness.
Saw someone try to discredit Maya’s allegations because she’s accused Hutch from the Thermals and Drowse too. As if it’s impossible that there are Three Bad Musicians.

Reading Oppenheimer as pro-US propaganda is a spectacular media literacy failure, congrats. It’s literally about how petty narcissists within the US military and government have doomed the human race.
@HardDriveMag
@Borderlands
As someone enjoying the game overall, Borderlands 3 has some of the worst writing in any fictional medium ever.
I inch ever closer to suicide each time Claptrap says something.
Dude I bitched about P4K ALL THE TIME but if you're actively mocking or celebrating this situation you can fuck all the way off. People lost their jobs, get a fucking life dudes.
@EPM106
They care more about "feeling" feminist than profit. They'll go as far as to not abandon Barbie for Ken because it's obvious to them that it would be wrong, but they're too lazy to engage with the nuances of a "normal" Barbie. It's pretty good stuff.
all the best labels are tape labels. like, not even as a tape nut.
just tape labels are putting out way better shit. like pour through forged artifacts, citrus city. strategic tape reserve, etc. catalogs and tell me they don't straight up destroy captured tracks, domino, etc.
@lunch_enjoyer
Love the “dentists fucking suck but they still deserve a low-end living wage” energy here. Measured, rational and compassionate vitriol.
I love the way Chappell Roan refers to her artistry as 'the project'.
A 'project' is temporary, implying an end point that she herself can dictate (or evolve).
Unlike 'career', a nebulous term with no finite end, dictated by forces outside herself.
'Project' is anticapitalist.
@hondacrvthe3rd
I think it’s the lost potential. You have a relationship and you realize it doesn’t work, that’s one thing. The situationship collapsing always feels there was something there but you didn’t even really get to figure out what it was.
The editorial director of Bandcamp posted the following on Instagram while his colleagues were unionizing: "Bandcamp United is privileged tech workers cosplaying as Amazon warehouse workers. TL;DR: Fuuuuuuuck Bandcamp United."
My best friend’s music knowledge barely extends beyond Queen and Weezer and I think we really underestimate how important it is to surround yourself with people who do not give a shit about the weird tiny bubbles we occupy. Incredibly grounding.
Look Walz isn’t perfect (there’s no perfect politician) but he has an actual record of meaningful progressive policy and he’s smart in a normal guy sorta way so yeah this is some of the best electoral news of the past 20 years (low bar but still).
If y’all wanna try and drag me for being one of more than a few people calling out keegan, you can do that, fair enough. I’m going to roll my eyes as you ignore that Maya is one of those people but y’all stay holy or whatever.
Turns out I am gonna do a zine. Hmu if you wanna get involved. It does not pay “well” but I think it pays as well as Consequence which is very embarrassing for them.
There are a few problems with trying to put up a review of an album within a week of first hearing it. Getting the album title wrong is seemingly one of them.
@josephweirdness
AEW has evolved past the need for Jericho. Man was truly only relevant through his factions, has been a massive wet fart since the end of JAS and even that was often shaky.
@iceblueds
@RevivedOziach
I think sometimes we conflate P3’s theme with the quality of its characters and plot. It certainly has the most impactful theme of the 3 games but the plot barely happens until the backend and a lot of the character writing suffers for it. Agree that Strega is the worst of it.
Fuckin' this. If I'm putting out yr album on tape, primary motivating factor, I want a physical copy. What year it came out originally doesn't matter to me, I want to own, promote, share dope ass tapes. Expect many 'reissues' (first time on tape) from UTC this year among the new.
I totally get when some labels don’t like putting things out that have already been released digitally but I really think if something sounds amazing then it should deserve a physical format hence why CC always is reissuing old things don’t matter to me!!! ❤️☺️🍊
Very rarely is "not having a hook" a bad criticism, and it's certainly not rockist or poptimist. Jazz often has hooks. House music will have hooks. Hooks can be vocal or instrumental. Ambient maybe not so much. But you can criticize a lot of music for just *doing stuff.*
Rantipole

is out digitally. There's lots of stuff in it (70,000+ words) and I think most of it is good. Print copies coming in a few weeks. No pressure, but if you wanna support, it's appreciated.
Aight imma gas myself up:
Self-published, edited, designed, etc. a 70,000 word magazine, for which I wrote 23 articles and worked with a team of 20 on their own pieces.
Landed my first digital cover at PAPER interviewing YOASOBI.
And just debuted at LOBF with a piece on ARTMS.
Hey uh so final logistics to work out and all that but I asked for my BC Daily pieces to get killed and it looks like they were already killed! Wasn't told! So, the Dok-s Project thing is gonna be tough to place but if you got interest on ~3500 words on Chris Knox hmu I guess.
Good morning!
