@mcmansionhell
I really want to read a long piece about how this is a trend across basically every platform - from etsy to airbnb and even instagram + facebook, over time the vast majority of created content seems to concentrate among a handful of mass producers.
The idea that mechanical HVAC can bring any space, regardless of size or shape, to a comfortable temperature + humidity is maybe the single most important driver of the modernist designs these same accounts constantly whine about.
My father-in-law is a builder It is difficult to get his attention in a magnificent space because he is lost in wonder We were in a cathedral together years ago and I asked him what it would cost to build it today I will never forget his answer We can’t we don’t know how to do it
[me, drunk, being physically pulled out of the bar by my friends, away from a fight I'm clearly losing]: YEAH WELL MY WIFE FUCKED BRAD PITT. DID YOUR WIFE FUCK BRAD PITT? I DON'T THINK SO, LOSER.
Have you ever wondered why the world is full of box-shaped buildings with square windows, plain walls, and no ornamentation?
Well, it's because of this house in Yemen
It may look ordinary, but that's the point. It's actually 1,700 years old...
In another age this man would be spear fodder in some tyrannical hemophiliac's petty conquest against his cousin/uncle, but now things are worse... he has to listen to a woman.
@mrice97
Men like this used to lead legions into battle. Now he sits in traffic, on the way to the same cubicle every day. Where he will listen to some HR harpy lecture him on how he is the problem, while he watches as his society slowly decays. He may have brief moments of happiness with
There's a slight irony in showing a more traditional house geometry as an example of a more modern approach to comfort, and vice versa. But in this case I think it highlights the scattershot inconsistency of what these folks believe in.
@golikehellmachi
This is just one example of a trend I've been noticing: cars have become so focused on occupant safety/comfort that they're becoming actively dangerous to non-occupants.
A thing I think is extremely obvious but rarely stated is that we make enormous sacrifices to accommodate the reality that a lot of people are shitty drivers but we've inherited a built environment where driving is almost always a requirement for survival.
@HollyBell8
And my forever counter-response: Here's a picture of Dafushan Forest Park, one of many parks that can be visited via the subway in Guangzhou. If population density were lower, sanctuaries like this would be sacrificed for sprawl.
what are the Ultimate Cable Movies to you, without going to the Shawshank well? Thinking about this now because
@buffetbreaker
mentioned the former which immediately made me think of the latter. Both films where commercial breaks improved the viewing experience somehow.
stair separation is a trivial problem to solve with this floorplan and imo it's disingenuous to suggest that it's the reason you don' see buildings like this in the US.
when townhouses share a wall that wall is required to be a 2-hour fire partition, but if you just put the houses a few feet apart you don't need to do anything at all.
no reason just saying.

If you think the descendants of slave-owners can't also be descendants of slaves you might want to investigate what those owners frequently did to their slaves.
in honor of "10 miles west of Boston", what is the funniest shot from a movie/tv in terms of CLEARLY not being the place it says it is. This cannot be an intentional joke.
@Eric_Erins
always lived near the ocean but I cringe at the term "flyover." I've driven coast to coast a handful of times and, if you look, there's great things everywhere.
Not quite clear at the shock & dismay at # of Senators in small population states. That's the constitutional structure. Congress a different picture. NY has 26 congressman, 18 Dems. California has 53, of which 42 are Dems. Wyoming? It has one.
A thing I think is extremely obvious but rarely stated is that we make enormous sacrifices to accommodate the reality that a lot of people are shitty drivers but we've inherited a built environment where driving is almost always a requirement for survival.
Taking a break from my normal shit posting this week to only post photos of Mexican architecture. I hope this is a welcome presence on your timeline. A respite from all the dumb takes on today's news.
Of all the blatant falsehoods peddled by architectural dullards on this website, the most obnoxious is the idea that traditionalism and modernism are enemy dichotomies that together comprise all of architecture.
I say it a lot, efficiency is brittle. Too many of the things we encounter in our modern life - from simple objects to large global systems - either work perfectly or break irreparably.
