I wouldn’t say obsessed, but I’ve got a ton of perfectly good scientific hardware who’s control software was last updated in the Windows XP era. Hard to justify $20k+ for new microscope cameras just to get to run Win10 or whatever.

Is there really a meaningful difference between any timeline? Gaza has two land borders, both closed to Palestinians. Secondly, it’s not like there’s a place for the ~1.1mm people to go, because baked in to the order is a “so we can level the city” so they’re not going back soon.

Everything I’ve heard about him says that he’s a fantastic person and likely would answer a cold email, but most of our questions could also be answered by reading Rosetta/Alphafold documentation and literature. I’ll always take the high effort/low contact option if presented.

It depends, if they’re cell lines I could see there being an argument for backups. We have a freezer with 15+ years of longitudinal biopsy samples. Not something you can really back up offsite and the replacement cost is essentially $Infinity.

My favorite discovery in lab was a microscopy experiment that showed a feed forward mechanism in my system. Only way I found it was because I did extra controls and stared at them way too long.
More controls and actually paying attention to them is the way.

If I could change one thing about myself, it would be to fix my inability to be excited for new things.
I finally won the long read sequencing fight with my boss and got permission to run a nanopore experiment. Instead of being excited it was a solid week of procrastination.

PHCBi is the best, if your institution allows them. My institution limits us to Sterlings and they’re fine, I guess. The door handles suck, so plan to replace them every 3-4 years at ~$500 USD/time.

It makes my lab meeting real weird… “here’s all the emails I wrote so you can do stuff”.

Morris Kline’s Calculus: An Intuitive and Physical Approach. It’s not as rigorous as something like Apostol, but it grounds calculus in a context that works for me. It helps that it’s a genuinely good read also.
