having helped to cover these ongoing strikes there’s no doubt about it, it’s way harder being an SHO now than it was even only 7 years ago. Too many patients with way too much paperwork, the medicine and surgery “decision making” takes 2 minutes, the admission paperwork an hour.
so ends my fellowship in Sarcoma & Joint Reconstruction at RNOH. My heartfelt thanks to Mr Aston
@londonsarcoma
@orthopoda
Ms Havard & the rest of the entire team for being genuinely awesome & helping me learn new skills and knowledge to benefit my future patients.
Congratulations to
@DrFrasquet
on winning the inaugural NWOTA SAS Colleague of the year. No finer recipient and a more thoroughly decent and kind man you could never find. Thank you for helping hundreds of trainees over the years and thank you for all you have done for me
very grateful to Mr Ohly,
@ChrisGeeOrtho
, Stryker and the
@GJOrthopaedics
for another excellent, free, cadaveric robotic and manual hip and knee course and for my MAKO certification via fellowship, apparently the first for Scotland!
what a way to start a fellowship at the Golden Jubilee, an absolutely free Cadaveric scanned & planned MAKO hip and knee course for fellows. Hope this sets the tone for things to come. Thanks to
@ChrisGeeOrtho
@JasonRo67783980
& the rest of faculty, Stryker & Glasgow uni. Insane

and a phenomenal 6 months at Wrightington comes to an end. Can’t thank Mr
@HirenDivecha
and Me Aslam Mohammed enough for all they’ve done for me, deeply indebted
@DominicMarley
The real kick in the teeth was when prescribing all the meds got to the end to be met with “You cannot prescribe any medications until the patients smoking status is entered”
20 mins of work up in smoke! (See what I did there 😜)
great day out at Wrightington
@wrightingtonLLU
on their Complex Acetabular Revision course. Great practicals, great tips and tricks from an excellent faculty with a fantastic faculty to delegate ratio. Would highly reccomend
an honour to sit next to
@fayez_almari
as his video on how to do a Hip Hemiarthroplasty is shown to delegates at the BHS instructional Course narrated by Miss Debbie Shaw. A seven minute hemi! (Editing may have been involved)
@pranshuorthodoc
of Wirral University Teaching Hospitals delivering the first lecture of the Wrightington Casting course with an opening nod to Sir John Charnley (he did far more than just invent the modern hip replacement)!
@wrightingtonLLU
the queues of people trying to get through the airport is probably a good way of representing the number of people on waiting lists in desperate need of their surgery.
The difference is you can see the queues at the airport, you can’t see people suffering at home!
as a Post-CCT Fellow about to commence my Consultant career in August eager to see how Consultants vote on their offer. I fear if it’s accepted it’s over for those coming behind and they will vote with their feet and leave the profession for good
“I voted to strike. The wonderful career I’ve had just isn’t available to you guys anymore. I never really had to worry about paying the mortgage or paying for food, all I had to worry about was operating. Now you’ll have to worry about those too and that’s no good for anybody”
thank you to all those consultants who thought about voting yes but then thought of the impact on their junior colleagues and voted no. You have made a tremendous difference to the future of the profession for your junior colleagues.
Great day down at the NWOTA Trainees vs Consultants Cricket match. Massive thanks to
@TobiOputa
and
@NorthWestORC
organising and all who got involved. Looking forward to next years already and maybe a summer ball to follow!
thank you to the board at
@JubileeHospital
for inviting us new starters along to meet them at lunch today. Great to get a small insight into all the work that goes on behind the scenes to allow us to help our patients. Thank you
by the looks of my feed it appears MSRA has shafted a generation of keen anaesthetics trainees with outstanding scores but no interview for a training number. Maybe high time for departments to offer bespoke CESR pathways and have done with rotational training nonsense
fantastic day at
@ManchesterTraum
Cadaveric Pelvic Course. Great faculty meaning the pelvis far more understandable and manageable. Big thanks to
@JosephAlsousou
for trying to tailor learning to individuals needs and wants- highly recommend and it supports
@Orthocycle1
too!
if even the Christmas chocolate coin company can see what inflation is and the amount needed to show the same value as 20 years ago why can’t this government see it with junior doctors and fair pay restoration?
A snap shot of the acetabular revision masterclass yesterday at Wrightington.
Thank you to our amazing course convenors, faculty and delegates.
A big thank you to our meeting sponsors DePuy Synthses, Biocomposites and Convatec.

Fantastic news Antonio and thoroughly well deserved. Well done to the team for recognising the specialist role and appointing such a worthy candidate. (P.s. does the suit now stay? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in a suit!)
@DominicMarley
@GeorgePavlou76
@MZeiton
Wow. COO, Director of Partnership Sales, Commercial Director. He’s definitely getting out before that ship sinks! Be a fool to make the same mistakes twice.
Anyway Moez’s travels seem epic!
@DrFrasquet
@NorthWestORC
Thoroughly well deserved Antonio. I’m grateful for all the help you have provided me over the years. It was a privilege to work with you and Stepping Hill are incredibly lucky to have you

@londonsarcoma
I’ve heard he’s demanded his own office and a trophy cabinet… reasonable demands I’d say 😉. Congratulations to Lee, top man and well deserved
full support and solidarity with the Consultants striking today. Pay erosion, demoralised workforce and trainees leaving in droves. Urgent action required or else it’s over and we’ll all be in a worse off place with no NHS.
Another excellent webinar for FRCS Orth from
@mike_hayton
and the Wrightington team. Thanks for giving up your Sunday evenings, it’s greatly appreciated.

Trainees just edged it with stellar performance from Indy Samra and some key wickets from Fayez Almari as the Consultants looked to be coming back in to it after a big knock from an injured Bilal Barkatali

@DominicMarley
I wonder if she actually thinks she represents the views of the people who elected her? Anyway off to bed with no supper because I’ve been naughty and dared to be valued at what I once was in 2008
hats off to Nathan Campbell the inaugural Golden Jubilee Bowling Champion after a fine performance. Hayden in the lane next to us clearly still has a lot to learn
surely it’s a “go away and come back with something better that helps all my colleagues and doesn’t lift the ladder on my junior colleagues” response to the offer
@rachel_baumber
@WawiraAntonia
Haha, I’m sure having witnessed the ingenuity of Will,
@londonsarcoma
and the team they would probably give it a go if you gave them any hint of a chance. Hope you are all keeping well and enjoying the shiny new theatres!
@DrFrasquet
It’s fascinating. Essentially after you’ve removed the tumour you have to try to reconstruct without any of your usual landmarks to use. I’m not cut out for 12 hours scrubbed & I do miss my shiny hips and shiny knees but I’m pleased I came here and I’ve learnt an massive amount
@MZeiton
They really, really, really don’t give a shit. They know they’re gone at the next election so are just finishing off what they’ve started by ruining everything.
What awful times we live in when we can treat people like this and claim to be a civilised government
what in the world is this? I couldn’t be prouder of all my colleagues efforts throughout this pandemic. The NHS is so amazing that should this lady need the NHS herself then she’d get the same excellent care as the next person despite this horrendous speech.
Eddie used to be my boxing coach as a teenager and he ran the youth club for 30 years by himself on a pretty disadvantaged estate, he’s changed the lives of thousands of kids positively. Can we help him get to his target?
My senior consultant yesterday as we performed a complex cancer operation on a child and still Rishi refuses to even offer to negotiate.
Truly feels like a battle to save the profession now
@londonsarcoma
@orthopoda
Pleasure was all mine. You’ll have to visit when I’m back in the North West to sample a Wigan kebab. Hopefully you’ll let me visit regularly to keep up to date with oncology for my metastatic work
